We sometimes choose this collection of tables for cabin house for these reasons – and because they are easy and quick to make. It is also a great choice for home decoration!

The other tables are made in the same way – you can choose to use the 1×4 method as described in the plans below – but only by changing the length of the cut. Here are some standard sizes to make your life easier.

Here's the rectangular coffee table I made, it's a pretty standard size and works with most standard sofas. It's on the short side, so if you want to add a shelf underneath, I'd increase the length of the leg to 18.” Note that I used 1x4s in this design – you can also do a jigsaw if you have the tools. – The plan will work both ways.

The end tables are a bit taller, so the bottom shelf will create more function and basically support the legs. But the bottom shelf is completely optional.

The Parsons console table is also ideal for lower shelves. I'd love to see it with a shoe box or throw pillows in the media console in the living room. This version is quite wide, but you can narrow it down by using a lower top plate.

And finally, the dining table! One change is that I used 2×3 for the tablecloths instead of 1×3 to add support. I also made 45 clamps under the counter from apron to apron, screwing in the legs as well (this is shown in step 4 of the plans).

For additional leg strength, a cross brace can be added to each leg between the aprons at a 45 degree angle. Be sure to screw in the legs as well. The material should be the same as the aprons.

A central support can be added by running a “rib” between the aprons using the same material as the aprons if needed on a larger top. When we added our screened porch to the back of the house, we really wanted a table for the kids to play or eat. So we began our hunt and quickly found this super chunky rustic game table from Restoration Hardware. Introducing the $600 Vintage Parsons Play Table… It's a Table! Banks are still $269 each. The Nikari Frame Table By John Pawson

I am a Christian, a father, a husband and a former aerospace engineer. In my spare time I like to design furniture for weekend DIYers like myself. In other words, I write great furniture projects that are so easy they will blow your mind! (No woodworking experience necessary.) So the wife and I bought a new house and will be hosting family for Thanksgiving. Our shiny Ikea table wasn't up to the challenge. A nice wooden table was out of our price range, so I decided to dust off my woodworking tools and make one.

The good thing about this project is that you can build it to your exact specifications. We have a small living room so we went with 36 1/2″x60″ and 30 inches tall. You can go further, shorter, wider, whatever you want. So the first thing you need to do is decide how you're going to make it. Decide on the size, shape, finish and type of wood before you begin.

I made it from aspen because it is cheap, easy to work with and very cheap. You can build an entire table out of pine for around $50, furniture grade wood will cost around $120 and up depending on what type of wood you choose. That's what you want. One thing to remember is that pine is a very soft wood. Writing on the table, throwing things on it, etc. It will scratch and tear easily. If you are ok with it and you connect, go for it. Some woods won't stain and others are more difficult to sand and work with, and you might think some woods are downright ugly. Do your research.

Once you have decided on the shape and type of wood, you can start with the legs. Mine is 3 inches square. (Depending on your wood, you can buy a 4″x4″ and skip this step, just cut to length and away you go).

How To Build A Parsons Table

The finished length of my legs is 29 1/4″ long. I start by cutting 4 1″x4″ boards to 36″ long for each leg! You will have 16 3′ long boards when you are done. Now you will take 4 of them, place them and glue them together with wood glue. Don't worry about the glue, if you don't have splodge glue when you attach it, you're not using enough. You will have four 3 1/2″x3″ table legs when you are done. After the glue dries we will cut it to the final size.

While the glue is drying, it's time to make the table top. Mine is made of two 1″x8″ and four 1″x6″ pushed together. I also placed two 1″x8″ at the end. I like the look, but you could easily use a long board from end to end.

Cut the 1″x6″ and two 1″x8″ to 45 1/2″ long. Take the other two 1″x8″ and cut them to 36 1/2″ long. We will use pocket holes to join them. You will need a pocket to hold them together. I drill 2 pocket holes on the boards every 10 inches, turning the sides of the board, once you have drilled all the holes, roll the glue over the edge and glue everything down.

Note: Take care to make sure that everything is as possible as possible. The tabletop is what will be seen, and the more care you take to protect everything now, the happier you'll be when you get to the sanding and finishing steps.

When the glue dries, take your legs and we will cut lengthwise. First set the table saw to 3 1/4 inches and cut one of the edges of the board. (Cut the edges of the board we glued on) Now set the table saw to 3 1/4 inches and cut the other side, so now. You have 2 smooth edges and you should have a 3 inch square board.

Now cut one end of the board 1 inch with a miter saw, this will smooth the bottom of the board.
