The first step in a woodworking project is to build the chair frame. As you can see in the picture, if you want to do the job professionally, we recommend using 1×3 lumber and screws.
After the wood pieces are cut to size, we recommend attaching them with 1 1/4″ screws and waterproof glue. Make sure the corners are square before inserting the galvanized screws.
Continue with the small wood project by attaching the legs to the seat frame. As you can see in the picture, we recommend making the back legs a little bigger because they should support the back.

After making sure the legs are vertical and the frame is horizontal, we recommend drilling the pilot holes and screwing them into place. If you want a rigid structure, add waterproof glue to the joints.
If you really want to score points when talking about the appearance of high chairs, we strongly recommend that you add trim between the side legs. After sizing the clips, secure them in place with glue and finish nails.
The next step in the weekend project is to secure the set rails in place. As you can easily see in the picture, we recommend that you size the 1×3 boards with a circular saw before securing them with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

In addition, if you want to improve the appearance of a small chair, it is important to keep the slats at equal distances. For professional results, close the screw head and smooth the cut edges.
One of the last steps in the project is to place the 1×3 slats between the back legs. As you can easily see in the plans, the back support will add value to the project and enhance the look of the chair.
Tip: If you only have basic tools and limited woodworking skills, it’s a good idea to make pocket holes and glue the slats between the legs. Use a level to get a consistent and accurate result.

How To Build A Simple Chair

Treated woods often have such a high moisture content that they take three to six months to take shape. For KDAT or KD19 closed kiln dry wood, the waiting time is one or two months.
Whatever reclaimed wood you use, protect it from the elements: Prep with deck cleaner and wood bleach, then apply a coat of colored translucent stain (shown) or an opaque stain.
