I used Burell 2x4s from Home Depot for the frame of the chair. Very simple design, 2 rectangular frames with writing in each corner. Everything is assembled and installed with 3″ screws and Titebond wood glue. I check to make sure everything is level and square as I open it.

One to build the frame, I did a quick assembly of them, checking the height of the seat and the size to make sure I’m on the right track.

The design allows for a 3/4″ layer to cover 2 sides of each frame, I chose not to cover the rear to reduce the weight and cost of the project. It will be tight to a wall, so there is no reason to hide it. The side that does not show. I return to the cut list I to get the length and width I need.

I use a Milwaukee “drywall” gun on many of my projects including plywood and 2×4. This is a great way to attach wood to wood. I make sure everything is lined up correctly and use a lot of screws to tighten it.

Usually you can leave your paint a little open in your corner and fill it later, but I have found that no wood does a great job of receiving stains, and holding the bottom is the most useful for a clean product. My method for cutting doors for projects like this is to lay out the door, cut 90% around, add hinges, and finish cutting. I found this the most effective way to add doors. Because the door frame is still attached to the remaining wood, the fasteners are installed very quickly, and after cutting and there is no door, they work well. I also added some material under the upper seat as a door for the lower door below the level of the seat.

This part will be picked up by the client and they will install it themselves. For this reason, I make sure to do the fasteners between the two saddles with a sharp, easy to know where it goes when reassembling. Even if you do this part for yourself, it’s good practice to do it in a place where no one will see. My projects are often covered in symbols and information that no one sees (or understands), but they help a lot!

Comment when adding boxes/columns like this. It is almost impossible to have a small gap at the edges of your corner when doing this type of work. My solution was to use a hammer head or handle to smooth the edges and round them off. Then I use a sander and blend until the corners look rough. Even if you have a lot of space, this trick is a great way to get a nice finish on your outer corner!
