How To Make A Pong Table – An outdoor ping pong table has been on my to-do list for years. We’ve had an ugly, cheap ping pong table on the back patio for a long time, and it barely fits. We can’t go too far down the table, so my boys are not playing a good game. Ping pong tables are a standard size of 5′ x 9′. After much consideration, I decided to use plywood to make my table a reasonably sized piece of wood.

I use a whole sheet of 4′ x 8′ plywood in the middle and rip another sheet of plywood into 5 1/2 inch strips to round the outside edge to the exact measurements. I also add a 1″ x 2″ piece of outer edge to close the edge of the raw plywood.

I used my circular saw to cut the plywood into 51/2″ strips. I used 1″ x 6″ pine wood as a template. I clamped the 1″ x 6″ to the plywood and ran the circular saw along the fence along the edge of the wood to got a perfectly straight cut.

Once all the edges were pinned to get the table top to the correct dimensions, I attached 1″ x 6″ pine boards to the underside of the ping pong table top to support the seams and cover the pocket holes. And finally… I used @totalboat water based varnish to seal the table. I varnished 4 layers of varnish. I think I’ll get more though. The beauty of water-based nail polish is that it dries quickly and can be reapplied within an hour.
