How To Make Steel Table – Design: I created SketchUp for this project. SketchUp is a free online 3D design tool. I am happy to share this with others, message me @ contact me.
This project is one of the main reasons I decided to start this website. I couldn’t find plans or specs anywhere and was combing through Reddit comments to find what I needed. The result is an excellent piece that learns to ferment and heat damage.
How To Make Steel Table
The first step is to determine the size you need. My finished metal frame is ~19.5″ tall, with a finish ~17.5″ x 17.5″.
Custom Coffee Table With Steel & Bronze Base
I chose to use 1.5 inch square tubing for this. That leaves a ~3/4″ gap, which makes the design look nice and tight on the sides. If you want an open look, you may want to leave some space between the parallel runs. This means there will only be a top. /side. Small for the given length.
I used 1/16” wall thickness, which is not enough for a small table. If I wanted to make a large kitchen table, chair, or something with this design that would withstand a lot of loads I would add more thickness.
I have created a few calculators to help you determine your Infinity Cube cut list. First, you enter the desired cube height and width as well as the pipe size.

Note #2: The scale of the calculator can be cm, mm or whatever you choose. Make sure you keep the same space in all input fields.
The second is the opposite of the first. Here you can enter the length of the piece. Remember that the long part should be the short part + pipe thickness.
There are 2 lengths and a total of 3 different routes. Each cut is 45 degrees. The quantities, dimensions and dimensions are in the table below.

Ok So eighteen pieces are cut, pre-made, and ready to hang. What is the best way? Get it!
This is a better way than introducing them piece by piece. I just put two boxes on the joint to hold it until it’s fully assembled.
If you don’t take care to squeeze and run the bed at the same time, the heat will be harmful. Even the smallest of movements can affect the edges.
Infinity Cube Table
I recommend getting some of these electric magnets. Be sure to check the size. The smaller ones (<2″) are a few weeks old and don't do a good job of keeping a straight sized piece. I used this and a homemade corner jig throughout the project.
For the legs, I bought furniture adjuster legs and drilled holes in the wall to fit the floor. I put the real braided nuts at the bottom. If a foot is needed, the foot can be partially folded.
I want to finish my desk with wood. But in this case, the surface of the wood blocks the eye from the beauty of the design.

My local mirror was asking ~$60 for a cut and polished piece, so I went to Kijiji. I found an end table for $10 and used the glass top from it. It’s inches smaller than I expected, but can’t argue with the price.
This infinity cube was created by me and finished by Julia Mutch. He did amazing things with colored glass images created on each face. Julia calls the game
Jonathan Katz-Moses did a great job building one of these out of walnut. Making it out of wood has its own challenges, and it looks like Jonathan has mastered it! You can check out his YouTube channel and what he created for this table here.

This is a giant made by Osama of Egypt. He decided to make the holes wider, which would make it more open to view.
This is a small version created by Brad. He carefully took my original measurements and cut everything in thirds. The cube is about 6.5 inches in each direction.
Here’s a great example Brett made, and it’s bigger than my first one.
Large Wood + Steel C Table
I like it when people do things for themselves. It’s a great idea for Cole to put a cake with an open wooden surface. You will see that the round bar on the four sides is touching you. In this tutorial I will show you how I made this table with a welded metal base. I got a little more creative with this type of metal and I love how it turned out!

I drew a cool geometric design of the legs in a CAD program. I put it on metal paper with a silver pencil to make it easier to see and cut.
I used a 3/4” rod on top of it to know where to cut. Then I cut each piece with a cold cloth. This way I don’t have to define the angle, just mark and cut the lines.

Then, I join the pieces of metal together by butt-joining the ends. I joined the pieces together and then joined each area.
I had some difficult parts to work with, but I was able to take them in and make adjustments where needed.
I cut a 2-1/2” flat bar to the size I placed at the top of each leg to attach the table. I added some holes on the side of the flat bar so I could attach each board with screws.

I sewed the table legs together to make a flat bar with full beading and a solid joint. It’s always a bonus to have a friend hold them in place 🙂
Since the legs of the table are complete, I had to attach them with extra cords to make them more stable. I cut the first bar that I marked and inserted the flat iron.
For the second stretch I placed the bars, marked where it would cross the first string, cut it, and attached the first piece.
Absorption Side Table With C Frame
I then put the rest of the rod in to finish separating, mark, cut and weld in place.
I used tropical hardwood for this project. But they were wider than I expected, so I placed them on top of the table so they were 2-1/2′ wide each.
Finally, I cut them down 3/4′ thick from the side of the plank to match the shape of the table legs.
Natural Laminate End Table With Silver Steel Frame
I decided to wrap the table top with 3/4” angle iron framing. I would use a cold iron to cut the hat out of the metal and insert it into the corners so the frame wouldn’t wobble.
I placed the pieces of wood on the table in a fun way and then applied oil that penetrates all the boards.
To finish the base I used self adhesive and then followed with a few coats of black fabric paint.

To assemble the table top, I placed one board at a time, before drilling it, and inserted it into the middle of the flat bar. I attached a 5/8” screw plate to the boards and used a putty knife to make a small gap between each board to let the water out.
Once that was done, I folded it up and put it on top. To finish it off I put the table up on the legs using the holes I drilled earlier.
