These distressed woodworking techniques are my favorites because they are all super easy, give great results on distressed wood, and require no special supplies or tools. From soft woods to bold chippy colors, each one creates a slightly different look. You can choose the one you like based on your project and style you like.

This is an extremely versatile method of stressing wood or furniture, with almost the best results. It can be used on raw wood or previously painted wood and furniture.
For example, I used in the last guide to white wash the wood and created an old wooden look using only white paint.

Step 1: Decide which color for which layer. Start with the color of the wood and the base layer. (I used dark brown) Paint the wood in random places. Leave to dry completely.
Paint the wood for the next layer. (I used white here.) Let dry completely.

This method is similar to the first method, grinding. The difference is that sanding removes most of the paint and wood and leaves the raw wood exposed. This method removes some of the paint before it dries. I love this soft wood look!
