How To Make A Papasan Chair Cushion – Here’s one of my Black Friday deals. Yep, I stole a double papasan chair on black friday! Sadly it didn’t come with cushions and new cushions, not what I paid for the chair. So, obviously my pretend self said heck no, I’ll make one before paying that price!
I went through tutorials and found nothing on papaya cushions, but absolutely zero for duo papaya cushions! I made mine as I went along and it wasn’t perfect but I’ll figure it out next time I make one!
How To Make A Papasan Chair Cushion
Step 1: Lay out your fabric, fold it in half, and draw the oval shape of the chair. Loosely measure the seat of the chair with a tape measure to get an idea of how big your oval should be.

Step 2: Once I drew the oval (I used chalk), I tried a few different ideas to fit the pillows, but ended up with 3 columns of 3 pillows.
Step Four: Sew the two pieces together like a pillowcase. Just remember to leave an opening big enough to fit your pillow, you may need to fit your upper body too!
Step 5: Once I had the pillow where I wanted it, I simply assembled the cushion. So basically I did a very simple stitch on both sides of the fabric to hold the pillow in place and give the cushion a little more “movement”.

Plus, I love how snug and comfortable it is. I know I’ll have to do it again when I get some exterior fabric, but the total is still $40. Yes, I’m fine now 🙂

I selected a quality cushion in blue fabric from a selection of samples sent in the mail. I recommend you carefully measure the width of your chair before ordering – I ordered a 100cm cushion for my chair (from elsewhere – said 1m diameter) but the cushion needs to expand to fill the space, so if I Might have ordered a larger mattress if you wanted, since the measurement is a fraction of the diameter. Although I like the way I can still see the frame, it shows the structure of the chair. The cushion fabric is tightly woven and soft to the touch. The cushion itself is well padded and really comfortable! It complements my papasan chair nicely. Only problem is, I’m not the only one who likes it! (see picture)
The pillows look great and are well made. The fabric is really soft and comfortable. The color is exactly what I see in the pictures. I chose Oriental Blue. The pillows were in perfect condition.
