The sewing pattern said I needed 14 yards of fabric, but I wanted to wash the fabric before making the cover, so I added 2 extra yards for gathering. I still have about 2 meters left to finish the cover.

Place the right side of the fabric on the seat as well – you will pin everything to the outside.
But let’s move on, because you’re probably wondering how to measure a dress. Unlike cushions, or if you are redecorating a chair, you can use old fabric as a pattern. When making a custom sofa, you need to measure your sofa accurately.
To join the panels, pin the fabric together and mark with a fabric marker where you need to sew the pieces together. For example, see the image below.

One of the things I will do next time to make the cover look more professional is to add piping to the arms. Instead, I pieced the fabric together and traced along the arm line.

I hope you all had a great Halloween. We’ve had unseasonably warm weather, and it always makes for great trick-or-treating. Of course it’s raining like crazy today. I don’t envy the primary school teachers today. A room full of kids working on sugar and the weather won’t let you go outside for recess. A sure recipe for headaches and frayed bodies. Yes!
