How To Make Table Legs Taller – What do you do when you buy a table such as a side table, end table or night stand that seems too short?
I bought it for a small price, but it was solid and made of wood. I am sure he is very down to earth. Since I didn’t have a partner (or a proper partner), I knew I wanted to do something special with him. It should be a separate section. However, he needs to be a little taller in order to do this.
How To Make Table Legs Taller
So I went to Lowe’s to get some leg extensions for a few bucks. Then I drilled a hole in the bottom of each leg and screwed the leg extensions into place (the legs come with screws). It’s a simple project that doesn’t take much time and money, but it looks great.

I have often been asked how I paint to get the texture right. I tried to explain, but I thought I should take a picture for you guys!
I will go to any lengths to quickly cover the image with paint. I know it would have taken twice as long if I had painted in one direction or on smooth cloth pieces. I start somewhere (usually a corner) and go up, ignoring the brush strokes. When I go to small areas in the wood, beams and grooves, I use the “hammer” method without trying to fix the brush marks caused by the hammer.
I found Annie Sloan chalk paint to be a beautiful paint in every way. This is a beautiful picture! That is why he liked the texture created by this type of painting. I also like that I can paint a table or cabinet like this, then before I wax, I usually sand it lightly to smooth out the roughness and smooth the texture. . It looks very smooth, but waxing, especially black waxing, can still produce a nice, interesting texture that’s more unique than the very flat, smooth texture you get with latex.

Custom cabinetry is being made with a color palette and redesign, so I thought what about an end table? This way those who love my Union Jack dresses but don’t have the space or budget for them can get a cute shade of blue without spending $150!
How do I trade roses for boxwood? 🙂 I took one and two photos to see which one looked better, and most of the ones with roses turned out to be completely wrong with the focus and lighting. Also, the pink stole my eye more than the Union Jack! 🙂
It’s hard to tell in this picture, but I applied two coats of the top coat. Rose from Wood Icing showed me how to apply and polish the wax and it seems to add extra durability, especially to floors and cabinets, so I gave it a go! It’s all dead, but it’s so shiny on top…I love it!

If you’re in the area, stop by Wood Icing in Chesterfield Mall and check out this beautiful table! I have a small table that I bought 5 years ago from the local classifieds for $25.00. It was in my living room until the recent renovation and I moved it into the kitchen/dining room. Although it is small, it fits my small family (one mom of two). Its small size makes my kitchen look bigger. The only problem is that it is too short/small for the chairs I have.
Most tables have to be 30 inches long, mine is 28. I couldn’t sit on the dining room chairs, tall guests died. So I decided to go up. Only 10 minutes to set up, not counting paint and drying time. It took about 45 minutes to get to the table and paint and drying time…
I bought T-nuts 5/16-18 x 3/8″ for the nails (seen here) and the good screw-in feet (see picture below).

Then I turned the table. Luckily, the centers of my table legs were marked. If it’s not yours, mark the center by measuring the diameter of the foot and marking it in the middle. Do it 2 or 3 times backwards until you find the middle.
Then I drilled a hole about 1/3″ deep with a 5/16″ bit. Note – If you don’t have a 5/16″ drill bit, I recommend just buying a drill bit (like this one). It’s a few dollars more than buying a single bit. Now there are 10+ more bits for future projects – yes.
If you can see the holes in the side of this cup (pictured below), you should know that I didn’t drill them. Who knows. But I don’t care, the table is still working fine without them interfering with this project.

I turned the table upside down before painting so it wouldn’t shake – it didn’t. It was huge, and still is today (I’m writing this 3 weeks after completing the project).
Then I removed all the legs and applied several coats of paint to each leg. To match the color, I took one of the front legs to Sherwin Williams and fixed it. I bought a small amount (sample size) for a few dollars.
Tip – I’ve found using masking tape with the soles to keep feet dry helps.

My small table is over 30 inches long and fits my dining room chairs. A 6’3″ guest sat comfortably at my table. It works great and is cheap, easy and quick. Hope this helps if you need to raise your table!

To temporarily increase the height of the table, buy a set of wooden or plastic legs that go under the table legs. For a permanent solution, buy a board or get 4 short pieces of wood of the same height. Then attach to the bottom of the table legs with screws and hanging posts.
