How To Build A D&d Table – Greetings to all! I recently made my sweet friend a new dining table for her dining room. She is a foster mom and needs a big table for her family and baby to sit when she comes home with him. This was a fun project and I love how it turned out in the space. The best thing about this table is that it uses 19 2 x 6 boards. You go! No other wood is needed and the result is gorgeous! You can get the free plan at the bottom of this post and I’ll give you the full build here. First, look how beautiful it looks in the kitchen!
The first step to building this table is to make the table top. Here’s the 2×6 board we ripped to 5″. Using my new Kreg Jig 720Pro, I added a 1.5″ screw pocket hole to one long side and end of each plank except 1 of the plank boards. board. This is a big step up from the previous Kreg Jig K4 model. You can find it on Amazon here!

Next, slice the leg. Here are the 2 x 6 boards I cut each 5″ wide. Cut to the correct length and make sure each end is cut at a 10° angle. Add a 1.5″ pocket hole to one end of the board. The pocket holes are in and above each leg, so be sure to tape each leg properly.
Glue these boards together and clamp them firmly until they are in place and dry. Each leg uses two planks and you have a total of four legs.
While the feet are drying, make the upper horizontal supports for the leg pieces. Also here are the 2 x 6 boards that were torn to 5″ inches wide each. Cut each to size and laminated using wood glue and clamps with all ends flush. I also added wood screws to the top board and to the bottom board. In this section because it is covered by the table top will be

When all the boards are dry, insert the feet into the horizontal support boards. Attach them through the pocket holes in each leg and into the horizontal support board using wood glue and 2.5″ pocket hole screws. For additional support you can drive 4″ long wood screws into the top of the horizontal board and into each leg as well.
Now cut and support the horizontal legs at the bottom. It’s also 2 x 6 boards ripped to 5″ wide each. Cut each to size and add a 1.5″ pocket hole to the bottom of the longest board. Each end is cut at a 10º angle. Glue the top board to the base board and attach through the bottom board and into the top board using 2 1/2 inch wood screws.
Attach the horizontal supports to the inside of each leg assembly using wood glue and 2 1/2 inch pocket hole screws. These line up 4 inches from the base of each foot.

At this point, you are ready to fabricate and assemble the X pieces that will be placed inside each leg assembly. Each X piece is cut 4 inches wide with a 2 x 6 board. I didn’t add any measurements or angles on this piece, because the easiest and best way I’ve found to get perfect cuts is to lay each piece down and mark the pieces with a pencil and cut as you go. Here’s how I did the two leg assembly. I attached everything with wood glue, 2 inch nails, and even added wood screws that I could hide them for extra support.
Once the two leg assemblies are complete, it’s time to add the runners. Runners 2 x 6 boards ripped 5″ wide each. Cut three runners for a total of 59″ wide. First, attach the top base runners using wood glue through the 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and the 1.5″ pocket holes at the end of each runner. Make sure your pocket is facing down.
Next, attach the bottom runner base using wood glue and screw the 2 1/2″ pocket holes through the 1.5″ pocket holes in the runners and into each leg assembly. Also add wood glue between these two runners and secure using 2 1/2″ wood screws through the bottom runner and into the top runner.

Finally, add a final runner that attaches to the top of each leg assembly. Attach to the leg assembly using 2.5″ pocket hole screws and wood glue through the 1.5″ pocket holes in the ends of the runners.
The last step is to attach the table top to the table base. The long side of the table has a 2 1/2″ overhang and each end has a 7 1/2″ overhang. I want to add my finish and move it home before I add the table top to make it easier to move around. Attach the table top through the top of the leg assembly using 4″ wood screws and the center runners using 2″ wood screws.
Do not use glue on this part if you plan to disassemble the table and move it in the future. Be sure to share your build with us on social media with #shanty2chic so we can share!
