How To Make Outdoor Seat Covers – I usually try to take pictures when I make a tutorial, but this is one of those projects where I can tell it’s not going to happen. I took a lot of pictures and will try to explain exactly what I did. I put this post on DIY outdoor clothing mainly to encourage you that if your outdoor clothing is sad, worn or old, you don’t need to buy a new tool to fix things. You also don’t have to spend a ton of money on an expensive new mattress. The beauty of this project is that not only did I save money (even more than the replacement cost), but I ended up with a beautiful fabric with more prints and colors than you can find when buying outdoor furniture. For example, this year green, red and beige are the only colors for outdoor clothing. As you can see, this is not my color!
All fabrics for this project are from Hobby Lobby. Yes, they have sales so I get to save a lot. If you’re going to an attraction and have a cell phone, don’t forget to download one of these digital coupons. It only takes a minute and you don’t have to throw away paper and ink, you just have to show them. I returned the 4 seats with a “snap” back, a seat and 3 swivel seats. I took apart the old tent with a ripper. I had to use my imagination in some areas because the fabric was so damaged.
My fabric isn’t very wide so I cut one of the strips and joined the two together so that it stretches for the most part. If you have a stable, this step is very easy. If you have too much fabric, you may need to buy more to fit properly. Also remember to judge. This will make your final project stronger, so hopefully it will last longer.
Just make sure you press it hard before cutting. Measure twice cut once…you know the drill.

I put the old tent on top of the new “main” fabric and cut it into pieces. Basically, this is a 3-part structure consisting of a large central part and two smaller parts.
I don’t know about you, but I thought it was cool. I made several nice trips up the stairs and out into the yard where I hung everything up on a line to make sure it would stay put. I reused the velcro from the old tent because it was still in good condition. The old tent was very difficult because the cloth had a hole in the middle where the iron rod had to go. I skipped that class and it was great. I sewed it on the front and back of the pivot bar and did a straight stitch.
Then I repeated the process on the sides of the Velcro, essentially turning the swing like a large curtain and attaching the Velcro where it should be attached properly. I’m sure you can make the tent easier by even skipping the Velcro altogether and sewing it to the swing. Personally, I have no intention of taking out this swing tent until it’s broken and it’s time for a new one! Now go clean your bed and get a good night’s sleep so we can get started on the DIY pillow!

The seats and backs all start in the same direction. I was very lucky because the dress I chose was FREE. I really didn’t have to slow it down at all. Remember to take pillow measurements beforehand or take them to the store if you’re worried about the amount of fabric to buy. I think this is all part and parcel. If it’s too much for me, I might as well go down to hell to get a receipt.
So this is where I’ll start. Really old man and sitting on a chair! I didn’t have enough pillows so I used a smaller inner pillow. The yellow fabric was an old indoor sofa and it ended up looking great as an outdoor fabric… so use what you have!

The first step is to cut out all the old clothes. If you want to use the save button again, I choose not to. My ice cream is so good that I felt it was unnecessary. If your mattress has been out in the rain for years, you may notice that the “white” pad has also become dirty. I didn’t want to worry about spreading the virus to new clothes, and I didn’t want to spend money on new foam, so I found a solution in a box. Enter the white plastic bags. I used one for half of the pillow. WARNING: it gives a sensation when you first sit down and the wind blows. Kids and I think it’s fun, but you can skip this step if it bothers you.

Now place the fabric, making sure it is long enough to stretch from one side to the other. I didn’t cut mine at all. I still think it’s 1.5 meters, but it could be 1.75 meters. I would wait until you finish the first one to cut something shorter than this because you want to leave some sewing room between the two seats, and if you are doing a seat back, you have to. add fabric. Turn the fabric inside out so that the white side is on the inside and the white side is on the outside.

Now it’s time to join the fabric with the presser foot and sew straight lines along the bottom and sides. You’ll also want to make a seam or zigzag to keep the fabric secure. WARNING: do not sew the top cover!
Turn your work to the right to reveal this beautiful garment. Note that I have a “real” pillow on the bottom and a blanket on top. The back cushion is wide and actually covers the entire seat, while the front cushion is not full enough. It feels so good on the surface, you can’t even see it if you don’t do it yourself. And you won’t really notice the size difference when it’s on the bed.
I just wanted to point out that the dirt bags stay in the middle and the soft part is at the end.
How To Make Any Fabric Outdoor Safe
This next part is tricky. You may want to set it up so you can see exactly where you are trying to sew. Otherwise, like me, you can’t meet direct sewing. I admit I’m not careful enough to use it… NONE of the 7 pads I’ve made. Sew 2-3 rows of straight stitches on the right side of the pillow. This helps to give the pillow an interesting look and helps to divide it into two parts.
The 2 rows you just made will prevent the pillow from sliding too much.
Now it’s time to add a pillow (or pillows). Be sure to use a garbage bag to tie and cut
