How To Make A Pedestal Table Base – I am so excited to dance in the kitchen today. I recently built a new round table for our kitchen. It all starts with a surprisingly simple DIY foundation.
Hello hello! I’ve been wanting to build a round dining table for years. A round table to break up square corners and straight lines would look great in the kitchen.

And I always thought a small dining table with legs in the corner was a bit hot. The seat must be pushed far enough to remove the legs.

Does anyone else find this annoying, or am I being too lazy about it? They didn’t send any more seats. Ha ha ha.

Another bonus of the round table is that it can seat two people side by side. This is very good for our children.

They don’t have to fight over who gets to sit now. yes again A little fight is always a win for any parent.
I cheated on this building! I used pre-made table legs to get the curved shape I wanted. But to get the look I wanted, I changed the design, removed the legs, and added a bigger shape.
This photo was taken after opening the box at Osborne Wood. Isn’t that tree trunk cute?! I love the design and they always use good quality wood.

Using a pre-made wood base from Osborne Wood Products means that this DIY pedestal table base can have all the beautiful curves created by a lathe and band saw, but I don’t own one of those expensive tools.
Osborne also makes great coffee table legs. I built this DIY modern farmhouse chair/coffee table using these beautiful, large coffee table legs.
In full disclosure, Osborne Wood Products sent me this beautiful, oversized centerpiece for free. So, let’s build the base for this DIY coffee table.

If the written steps are confusing, watch this short build video. Watching others do something helps you get a better sense of direction. 🙂
However, you must be very careful about sanding with high sand and removing any excess or wood glue before painting.
The steps below do not include all steps. It’s included here to give you a better idea of how this table is structured by default. You can find the complete build steps in a free printable plan available in my Gumroad store.
Diy Table Base Ideas
Start by recutting a 2″ x 6″ pine board in the center of the table so the edges are square. About 1/8 inch should work on both sides.
Next, make 2 large 2″ x 6″ squares. Cut at a 45 degree angle using a miter saw. If your miter saw isn’t big enough to clear the planks, you can finish the cut with a circular saw or jigsaw.
I used Kreg Jig pocket holes and wood glue to connect the squares of this DIY table base.

Wood glue with hooks is strong enough to hold the pieces together while it dries, but I didn’t want to wait for the glue to dry.
Now make two smaller 2″ x 6″ squares. Use the same steps to cut and join small pieces of wood.
Sand the two squares to 150 grit before proceeding. It is easier to sand these parts before assembly than after assembly.

Finally, cut 2 – 3/4″ squares out of wood, MDF or plywood. These are invisible so use what you have. This platform will add height to the base of this wood table.
Glue one of the small squares of 1 1/2″ thick pine to the base of the Osborne hardwood and secure with screws. Screws – Use 2 1/2″ screws to go from the small squares to the Osborne feet.
Make sure they are centered before connecting them. Also make sure these screws go at least 1 inch into the small 3/4 inch square base.

Attach the scaffolding to the squares using glue and screws and this DIY foundation will be strong and durable for years to come.
Now glue the larger 3/4″ square to the bottom of the smaller 1 1/2″ square. Then you are ready to add the floor rectangle. Drill 4 holes in the bottom of the main square.
This time attach the large square to the ground with 4-3 inch screws. Again, make sure everything is centered.

The 3″ screws can be 3″ Kreg screws or 3″ self tapping #8 screws. This screw is large enough to pass through the upper part of the square step and down.
Carefully measure where the screw will go, making sure there is at least 1 inch of space in that space. These screws add strength to your DIY table base.
You can see more in the video and printable plan how I put together the mailing steps. This is a closer look at the lower layers of the foundation. You can see 1 1/2″ squares in 3/4″ squares. And they sit up to 1 1/2 inches square. This is how I glued and nailed the crown molding to this DIY round dining table.

First, unscrew the screw attached to the filter when Osborne sends it to you. Next glue a small 3/4 inch thick square to the top of the leg.
Make sure it lines up with the edge of the base. Then attach a 1 1/2″ thick square to the top of the leg and fold it over.
Make sure you attach these squares to the smaller Osborne wood squares with 4-3 inch screws.

Carefully measure where the screws will go and make sure they are at least 1 inch from the 8 inch square. Then put 1 1/2 inch thick square screws on top of the 3/4 inch squares.
The length of the screws is 4 – 2 inches so that the screws fit into a 1 1/2 inch square x 3/4 inch square.
Carefully measure where the screw will go, making sure there is at least 1 inch of space in that space. This is to make a DIY solid wood table. yes!

Now it’s time to add some finishing touches. This part of the table structure was inspired by a photo from the @Hammerari Instagram account.
I came across this when trying to find examples of how others have used bridge repair. You might recognize him as a master carpenter from HGTV’s Windy City Rehab.
Before we start, let’s talk about planning. You can find some PVC or MDF versions of this model. However, in this case it is better to use wood. This is because it is strong, durable, easy to sand and has a good finish.

I love carpentry and remodeling as much as I love chocolate. And that’s a lot of people! So I use it a lot and have a lot of experience with it.
If not, take some time and double check before making any measurements. Easy to cut and assemble one piece at a time. Then measure and attach the front. My job is the same.
The decoration at the top of this bridge is slightly simpler than at the bottom. I wrapped two strings of different shapes on top of the rock.

Disclaimer note: I chose the size of the base so it looks nice and big, not too small to easily stand on, and not too big to get my feet under the table. Added 42 rounded tops to this long table.
This step size seems to work for a 41″ x 44″ round table. If you want a large top, you’ll increase the size of the squares so the table won’t tip over easily if someone lands on the edge.
Then I added a few layers of wood around the base of the table.
Post Durable Cast X Base Table Pedestal
I used leftover T&G boards from the DIY Kids Play Kitchen. If you don’t want to buy a pack of T&G boards, you can substitute anything you like, such as 1/4″ plywood.
This is a DIY table stand. The trims I used, complete instructions and dimensions for this build can be found in the free printable drawings available in my store.
