A practical coffee table. One of the most used furniture in every home. Although it’s called a coffee table, I don’t think many people sit down to drink coffee today.

And with this I present my version of the table. When I was looking for a replacement for my old machine, I was inspired to make one with the features I wanted.

Using a miter saw and a right angle, you’ll want to measure every 1″ x 3″ to cut a 45 degree angle.
Once you have the 1″ x 3″ pieces cut them into tape and attach them together with wood glue using side brackets. Use box strap to secure everything while the glue sets.
I used nails to hold the 1×3 boards together, but I didn’t glue them until I had the legs in each corner. Once everything is in place and visible, attach the three boards with clips. You can leave a table on it to prevent things from moving.

According to the lift up procedure, measure between the inner side of the table where the drawer will be and the place where the drawer will be attached, this gap will also help to hide the drawer slides and give the upper lift room. move
Install the pop-up lift mechanism and the top will be. Attach to the first level, making sure it doesn’t touch anything as it stretches. You can add a peak later, just to keep things light for now.
1×3’s are used as the front while the sides are 1/4″ boards cut to 20-1/4″. 1/4″ back plate is 39-1/4″. Then I added a 1/2″x1/2″ dowel to the front for extra strength. So I thought of making these insert trays to hide more drawers. They measure 20-1/4″ by 20-3/4″ with the left panel used as the background. Install a table in the middle to rest the ladder and corner arms. Too low and you hit the stairs.
The base of the table is complete. At this point, you can smudge or paint. Just make sure you don’t tire your drawer when it’s closed. The task was to make a pop-up coffee table (lift top) with two covers so that when my significant other and I are sitting on the sofa, one of us is on his side and the other is away from his side. I will upload step by step drawings and instructions soon!
It all started when my significant other and I decided we wanted to get rid of those ugly TV trays in our living room. We always eat in front of the TV (don’t judge!), and there was a mess in there that we had to clean up every time we had guests over. We had a table from IKEA that took up too much space, and it didn’t work for what we needed, so it was left on the table! A friend of ours had one of these pop-up/lift-up tables, and we loved the idea. Sure, you could just buy one and be done with it, but why take the easy way out? Besides, none of them I found suitable for my needs in terms of size and drawers and they don’t cost a thousand dollars. More… love the project!

So it was off to the races. I made these plans using Solidworks. I have used AutoCAD all my work, but this was more than two; This is what I wanted to draw in 3D. It was worth every minute I spent drawing. Of course, I should have spent a lot of time thinking about how they met, but that’s a story for another paragraph.
The lift machines were the hardest to find. You can find them on Amazon, but they are very expensive. I actually found a guy selling the size I wanted on eBay and paid him $40/each (with free shipping). I think you can get the ones you have on alibaba. Here is the description of the equipment I purchased “pop-up spring table mechanism, fully assembled, solid steel, holds 110-220 lbs, 16.6″ wide (closed), 22″ long, 3.5″ deep (closed) , rises. 10.5″, forward 12.6″ Recommended board weight 22 to 44 lbs. For best performance Product dimensions are 22″ x 16.6″ x 3.5″ It’s actually about 3/16″ more than 3.5”, but some dimensions I had to cut iron and mill to fit my project. , but it was very easy.
As I said before, the top was the strongest part. I made it from three pieces of wood (2 1×12 and 1×4). I used a router to glue it together, and wood glue. I made a complete mess of the whole thing and basically ended up making it 5/8 inch too short. You really can’t tell unless you’re around, but I always will be. However, without a jointer or planer, it is difficult to make the boards match perfectly. It will take a lot of patience – and I mean a lot – of sandpaper.

Oh, and I used oak. Oak is heavy and bulky for this type of furniture that will see a lot of use, but man, is it expensive! You can use other hardwoods, or buy uneven lumber from a lumber yard and put it on the roof yourself to save money. This means you need a connector and equalizer, and since I don’t have one I bought s4s boards (4 sided) from Lowes. The interior (drawer sides / backs, support pieces, etc.) is made of pine; They are invisible, so it doesn’t really matter.
(you can cut about 1/8 inch from both sides of the drawer face to fit inside the frame instead of outside like mine)
Please read the entire program and all comments before starting this project. It is also recommended to review the Start section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and intelligently. Work on a clean, flat surface, free of stains or dirt. Always use the board directly. Check the box after each step. Always dig holes before rooting. Use glue and end nails for a strong hold. Wipe off excess glue from exposed wood for modified projects, as dry glue will not stick. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. good luck!

Make all cuts. I keep the exact dimensions of the table. For the absolute beginner, don’t forget that when I say 0.75, I mean 3/4 inch, and if your cut is after 0.75 x 3.5 x 22.5, that means you will be cutting 22.5 inches from a 1″x4″ board. . If you bought your boards from L0wes or H0meDep0t, the board will be 1″x4″x8″3/4″x3.5″x8″ so it needs to be beveled to make the sides smooth.
My advice to you is to keep the top, drawer and frame separate. It’s going to be a big pile of wood, and you don’t want to put a hole in your pocket where it doesn’t belong!
At this point, I decided to keep the upper parts. If you buy straight oak planks, you’ll probably find that they fit together. If you buy the wrong tables, you may end up having to do something with the connector (or router, like I did). Otherwise, you will have gaps, and it will look strange.

Find 1″ x 12″ tops, 1″ x 4″ middles, and choose the best fit. Look at the grain and color of the wood and take your best guess. If you’re going to use pocket holes to join them, you want them on both sides. You will also need to use wood glue and extra large clamps to hold it together for you. It is practical. If you don’t want to use pocket holes, you can make a stronger joint by tapping the inside edges on the router. Watch lots of YouTube videos before trying them for the first time, and of course practice with some shells!! This is where I end up taking too much, and I left my tops a little short.
This should be very easy. Use the pocket holes to gather the sides and back. I used a nail to attach the bottom to the 1/8″.
