To help organize my thoughts and anything that seems cyclical, I'm breaking this post down into some frequently asked questions. So there is nothing here!
A circular saw is a hand-held power saw designed to cut materials like wood or metal (depending on the type of blade you use on your saw).
Like miter saws (which we talked about last time), circular saws can make cross cuts, rip cuts, and miter cuts. It has a bevel lock that can be loosened to allow the saw to cut at an angle other than 90 degrees. This is especially useful for projects that are too large to cut with a miter saw (and sometimes even a very large table saw).
Use Your Speed Square As A Fence With Your Circular Saw
Circular saws are ideal for many types of projects! Personally, I like to use them to break large sheets of material (like plywood) into manageable pieces that can then be assembled in my workshop or further cut at the table (here I'm using my circular saw with a slitting attachment ).
If you don't have a rip cutter but want to cut straight, you can also use the scrap ruler trick where you clamp a straight piece of wood to a piece of wood and cut it (you can see in action on my Instagram story).
Circular saws can also be used as an alternative to miter saws! I like to use Speed Square for cutting wood at workstations. You can see me in action in my DIY floating table project.

Another type of project that is great for a circular saw is any project that requires the edge of the piece to be square (like my Living Edge river table project)! You can cut/trim the “live” or “hard” edge of the part before making other cuts.
I also like to swap a wood blade for a metal blade from time to time and cut steel for my welding projects (like my library)!
Although a circular saw is a great tool for many projects, there are a few key things to keep in mind when using a circular saw.

While I can't say for sure which miter saw is right for you, I can recommend a few that I've tried!
Best Entry-Level Saw: If you're looking for a great entry-level saw at a low price, I recommend the RYOBI 2 Battery Circular Saw Combo Kit.
Best Value: If you're already a step ahead of an entry-level saw, I recommend giving the RIDGID Cordless Brushless Circular Saw a try. This is a good medium look that will last a while!

Best Saw: If you're looking for all the bells and whistles of a circular saw but with an integrated rail (also called a rail saw), I recommend the most commonly used saw, the Festool rail saw.
I really hope you found this circular saw introductory article helpful! Be sure to pin this post if you want to find it later!

Drill five 4mm holes in the base of the circular saw. You will later use these holes to attach the circular saw to the board.
There are different options you can choose from for your DIY countertop. You can choose plywood, melamine or other types of panels such as laminated particleboard. If you have an old cupboard or closet, you can recycle some of it and use it instead.
Its dimensions should be 1.8 cm thick, 50 cm wide and 80 cm long. Make sure the board is straight and its edges are perfectly even.

Place your round face on the desired area. You can leave a space of 30 cm between the front of the board and the tip of the circular saw.
Again, make sure everything is as flat as possible. Then trace the holes in the base of the circular saw and place marks on the board. Remove the circular saw from the board.
Then, using the marks as a guide, drill through the board. Position the circular saw in the desired location on the board and insert a 16mm wood screw.

Choose flat head screws as they are perfect for your round base. Plus, these screws will hold your circular saw in place.
Turn on the circular saw and cut off the top of the table saw with your hands. Then flip the board.
Mark the places where you want to put the legs of the table with your own hands. Drill screws and attach two beams to the bottom of the board. The beams should measure 8 cm by 4 cm.

Then, using the same type of board as the table top, make the table legs. Also, insert another piece of board between these legs. As with the beams, drill screws into each one for extra support.
Drill two holes on one side of the craft table. Insert the zip ties through these holes and secure the extension.
Finally, try cutting out a piece of wood. After success, you can start using a table saw with your own hands.
