How To Make A Tile Table Top

How To Make A Tile Table Top – I tried to recognize the viral DIY TikTok trends again (if you missed it the first time, click here), and this time I took it on the actual tile board! We love scrolling through TikTok for inspiration and we came across this DIY sidebar that we thought would be fun for us to try; be sure to follow us on TikTok by clicking here and tag us in any fun DIY you want. ready for the next one!

To start this DIY, you need to attach the actual board to the brick. I make this table very thin and short because my intention is to play on the keyboard, but you can make it any size you want. To make this easier, use wood that is at least 2 inches thick, as it is the same size as the tile pieces. Another way to make this table would be to salvage or recycle an existing table and add a whole new tile, which works just as well! But here we have made our measurements, if you want to adapt them to the size chart;

First, I measured my table using the measurements above and cut my wood to size. I then used wood glue and drilled a pocket hole in my wood to hold the two pieces together so the screw heads wouldn’t interfere with the tile above. If you don’t have a kreg jig, you can cut the screws deeper or use metal clips on the bottom to secure the pieces together.

Because the legs of the table are the same type of wood, you only use them for the top. You want all the tiles to be red, so make the pipes the same size as your desired brick and add half an inch to offset the top edge of the top tile. This all takes the math part of tile size and how big you want your table to be, but fitting is the hardest part. Secure the legs to the table top, either by using a Kreg jig and pocket holes, or by screwing long countersunks through the table top into the legs. Make sure your legs are at a 90 degree angle by using 90 degree straps. Finally, to make the table flat, I added 4 furniture legs at the bottom that can be adjusted so that if the floor is not level, you can still level the table.

Now to the point! Start by placing the tile adhesive on the surface a little at a time and press the tile down. You need to use a square palette knife to make the lines on the decal, make sure you don’t put too much because it will rub off the mortar lines. You can also use spacers, but since it was on my sheet, I didn’t need them too often. You can attach tiles to the top and sides of the table, including the legs, if you like, but I left mine blank and wanted to paint it black! Allow the decal to dry for 24 hours.

Once the adhesive is dry, it’s time to assemble! I went with classic black grout for this project (big thanks to our friends at Deco Tile for letting us dig up the tile and grout for this DIY), but you can choose any color. Mix the grout with water to the consistency of peanut butter, float the tile to push the grout into all the lines.

Spread the grout evenly, use sponges and water, all sponges that stick too much to the tiles, so you don’t remove the grout from the lines themselves. As long as you are patient, you will get there! Let it dry for another 24 hours and now you have a side table!

I have to say that this table is not the easiest to make and requires a lot of patience, but if I make it, I will definitely look forward to it! The effect is great at the end, and I love how it looks in space.
