I've had this idea for a while, but mostly because I have something I want to use on my summer table! This runner pattern is perfect for using up extra sakura or just decorating your trash can!

Start by cutting 2 ½” x 10 ½” strips. For my runners, I cut 25 pieces which gave me a hand measurement of 10 ½″ x 501/2″ before gluing.
Sew the 5 pieces together using a small 1/4″ seam allowance. Press the seam to one side or the other. I made 5 blocks out of 25 sheets of paper. You can also do a 3-piece run with only 15 sheets, which makes a run a nice 10 ½” x 30 ½” (unmounted).
Next, install your base, and hit and run. Smooth out any wrinkles and secure the pins. I used pins on all other parts. I machine cleaned my runners ¼” from each seam. I increased the length of the stitches before sewing to give it a more “finished hand” look.

I really like the look of the quilt threads running in opposite directions, as each block wraps around the other blocks.
After you've cut the quilt, cut the slats and cut them all the way up to your runners. I usually add a little extra at the end to give my braids a “full” look. For my runners, I used 4 pieces of 2 ¼” x my fabric width to make my bands. Sew and enjoy your new runs!

Maybe it's because my birthday is in March, so I have a party on my mind. Last week I shared how to make a paper wreath, a DIY project I did for my dear friend's 40th birthday party. This week I'm going to show you how to make the tablecloths we use to decorate our tables.
Christmas Table Runner Patterns That Stitch Up Quick
This is a pretty simple project, but you'll need a sewing machine, plus thread, an iron and ironing board (starch helps too), and at least 20 inches of fabric. The table length you want. Make. It's a game.
One thing I love about this project is that while table runners make a great addition to any party (you can pair them with any color scheme), they are not only versatile, but they are reusable and look great after the party is over.
Step 1: Measure your table lengthwise (if that is the length of your desired runner), and cut approximately 20 inches of fabric. I used pink wood shavings to avoid fraying, but all raw edges would be hidden so it wasn't necessary.

Step 2: Lay the fabric flat, then fold the fabric in half lengthwise. Line it up so it's flush with the edge, then cut to use the edge. You can save the third addition to make another runner or use it for other crafts.
Step 3: Fold the fabric in half lengthwise so the right sides are facing each other. Iron the whole piece for sizing and iron the creases.
Step Six: Trim the corners of the seam. This will prevent most of the fabric from being pinched when you turn it over.

Step 7: Turn the fabric inside out, taking care to pinch as many corners as possible.
Step 10: Sew all ends together, leaving a 3/4-1″ margin depending on desired look. You can sew one continuous rectangle or make four diagonals (as shown below).
I bought the fabric at JoAnn's for $4 a yard (in the fabric section). I bought a size 7 and each runner was about $7 to make 4 different runners.
