There is a small corner where my children play and watch TV. I put a small futon in there…but no room for any other type of furniture! So I decided to make bean bags for them! (Where!)

I made these poufs out of wool! The price was right – the patterns matched my son’s room – and an added bonus… soft! I didn’t fill it because I wanted the kids to get in! I used this to fill a bean bag. But after using them for a year… we noticed that they started to shrink. One I put some leftover fabric on… but it got heavy so I don’t recommend doing that! So I would buy it and see what you get!

Ok The first one is what I like to call the drum. It has a top and sides.
Our bean bag can’t hold its shape using wool (which is fine by me), but if you want more of a look, you should use a sturdy home decor fabric and tuck it all the way through.
Another type is what I call Beach Soccer! Cut 6 surfboard shapes and sew them together.

Whether you’re relaxing, watching a movie at night, or curling up with a good book, a pint-sized bean bag chair fits the bill. And with so many of these in stores, why not make one as special as your child?
Difficult bean bag courses can be daunting with all their sections and circles. But if I told you that with 2 pieces of fabric, some fabric, and some straight stitching you could have a bean bag chair in 30 minutes, would you believe me?

Materials: Two fabrics (preferably upholstery fabric), one 22″ zipper, 3.5 cubic feet of storage space
1. Cut two pieces of fabric 45″ x 32″. The fabrics can be the same or you can choose a combination of two colors.
2. Turn together to the right. For long, raw edges, use a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying. Then straighten the edges. Due to the amount of abuse these stitches will take, I recommend using a shorter length of knitting for strength.

5. Unfold the fabric again and you should have a nice matching pattern on one side. Zigzag the raw edge and again use a straight stitch to close it.
6. Open the edges without a seam. With right sides together, fold the other side in half as shown below.
7. Sew a 22″ zipper in the middle of the door. I used an invisible zipper so it wouldn’t show when I was done.
Twist Outdoor Bean Bag Chair
9. Turn the bean bag right side out and fill it with beans! This baby chair requires a bag of pouf filler (3.5 cubic feet or 100 liters) to make a comfortable sofa. There is no easy way to get crazy little pills without wasting anything. My best tip is to have two people hold the zipper open and a third to pour.
Choosing to use two different fabrics means that the pouf seat is also versatile. Just turn it over and you’ll create a new look: two chairs in one!
Whether you’re making it for your child or giving it as a gift, I’m sure the bean bag chair for kids will become your new favorite place.

Remember, filling a bean bag with pellets is a choking hazard! Since the zipper is accessible, make this for kids who know better than to eat.
Editor’s note: If you’re worried about your child opening the zipper, or if you’re making one for a child, consider sewing the bag closed (note that you’ll need to rip the seam and sew it if you want to hide it. It’s a “bean”). It is not safe for a child to open the zipper or try to climb inside.
A great gift idea too! We love it! However, I think you have too much confidence in our sewing skills. I need to invest in that sewing room! Thanks for sharing! Andres

Using a 5/8″ seam allowance and a short length of braid, sew the edges together, along the edges, one short side, and the other long side in the back, leaving the short side open.
To seal the foam bag and finish the edges, zigzag or cover the top layers with muslin and continue to finish the edges.
Fold the zigzag edge down about an inch and sew around. This is a little difficult with the foam, take it slowly and rest the body of the bean bag on the table while you sew.

Fold the bean bag so that the edges meet in the middle. Place one side of the velcro on the edge that goes from the middle of the top piece to the middle of the bottom piece. Attach one side of the velcro to the other side.
Turn the chair to the right and fill it with stuffed animals. If you don’t have enough soft toys you can add pillows or blankets.
