How Do I Install An Exterior Electrical Outlet On The Outside Wall Of My House? What Supplies And Tools Are Needed As
These beautiful wooden key rings show all your feelings when gifted. Impress your loved one with a gift… READ MOREOutdoor outlets should be installed in the front and back of the house to provide a safe place to plug in an extension cord. This prevents people from running extension cords through the door (inside) and reduces excessive extension cord lengths. A general rule of thumb is to install outlets that are easily accessible above the ground and no more than 6 1/2 feet above the ground. This is suitable for the front and back of the house. Outdoor receptacles must have GFCI protection, must be ruggedized (TR), and must be weatherproof.
For many of us, our garage simply doesn’t have the capacity to accommodate that much. It seems we can always get a few more. However, this code is only a minimum configuration rule.
A basic rule of thumb for garages is to install one outlet per vehicle compartment and no more than 5 1/2 feet above the ground. This rule applies to electric powered attached garages and detached garages (detached garages need not be powered; this is the owner’s option). The purpose of requiring an outlet in each compartment of the vehicle is to ensure that any electric vehicle parked in the garage is charged.

Direct burial of the cable underground, electrical PVC (PVC) pipe with a conductor installed in the pipe or air method. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Read this entire article to help you decide which method is right for you!
Step 2: Burying UF cables directly underground is probably the most common and most expensive method.
Provides thermal, neutral and ground conductors within a durable, sun and moisture resistant enclosure or ‘sleeve’. Type UF cable is very similar to “NM” (Romex) cable, but differs in that the individual conductors are “flooded” with the thicker material found in NM cable. So there is no thin, easy-to-remove outer jacket like NM wire, but the conductors and their insulators must be stripped from the “jacket” (this will take some time to learn – first attempt at advanced wiring). on the installed cable). A trench that is at least 18 inches (45.7 cm) deep is required between the emergence and the side of a direct buried cable. Most pits should be dug below the frost line. Contact your local surveyor to determine the minimum depth.
How To Wire An Outlet: Gfci Installation
Step 3: After ensuring the minimum depth along the entire length, place the “UF” wire in the trench.
No need to support it in the trench. The cable must be supported as it passes through the concrete. This is accomplished by nailing the wood (stress treated when exposed) to the concrete and then threading the wire into the wood. If the cable is likely to be physically damaged, it should be “jacketed” with “No. 80” PVC pipe and terminated with suitable pipe fittings (connectors, “LB” fittings, clamps, expansion joints, etc.).
Do not backfill the trench until an electrical inspector or the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) has verified the work.
Step 5 – The PVC pipe method allows you to add as many loops as you like without labor or re-installation costs

By installing two or two larger size pipes than required for the current project, or by providing a second pipe at the same time, there will be enough space to run additional conductors at a later date. To speed up future assembly, always place a “pull cord” or extra rope and tie the rope or directly to the new rope when expanding the number of loops. Multiple conduits must be provided for other services: low-voltage and signal services, such as: communications (telephone or network), cable television, satellite television, interconnection, etc. No service on energized pipelines. These cables must be installed in individual conduits or directly buried in a cable conduit suitable for direct burial in the ground. It should be clear that the (multiple) pipeline approach offers great flexibility.
“Schedule 40” for underground sections and “Schedule 80” for above-ground sections of pipelines. Place the pipe section next to the drain. Make sure you have a “snake” or fish net. Connect pipes with approved fittings and fasteners. Place the pipe in the drain.
Secure piping 30 to 36 inches (76.2 to 91.4 cm) apart with approved pipe supports.
Step 7 – A PVC “expansion joint” is required where the pipe exits the surface and enters the wall or wall-mounted cabinet.
Outdoor Lighting And Receptacle Codes
Expansion joints allow for changes in slope caused by frost and should be used when necessary. Check your local code for this requirement. Most home centers that sell PVC electrical conduit have expansion joints.
Step 8 – Press the “masking tape” or “snake” onto one end of the tube until it is perpendicular.
Protect existing wires from snake damage by placing cardboard or other insulating material around the conduit. Steel snakes can conduct electricity if allowed
