3. Without moving the tablecloth (you may want to place a heavy book on top to keep it level), place the tablecloth at each corner so that the “arms” stick out of each corner. Glue it to both the edge of the corner and the bottom of the table leg, being careful not to slip if the table legs are attached.
4. Sew a straight seam on each corner “arm”. Cut the “arm” to leave about 1/2 inch from the edge. You can bring this down with a fancy stitch, or if you have a serger, that won’t be a problem. I just left!
5. After each corner has been sewn, turn the tablecloth right side out and place it on your table, making sure it is snug and not sticky. If you fixed it correctly you don’t have to redo this part, both tablecloths fit me the first time just telling you it should be easy.

6. Place the chairs that will be on the table under the table. You’ll want to fold the tablecloth a few inches over the chairs so little feet don’t get caught in the tablecloth. Measure how many inches down from the top of the table the finished edge should drop. For our children’s desk, it was about 7 inches.
7. Turn the tablecloth over and place it on the table. Starting at the corner, measure to where you want the hem to be (mine was 7 inches). Fold the edge of the fabric up along the table leg and pin. Do this for all four corners. Then, holding both corners, fold the fabric to form a straight line from corner to corner and pin it in place. This is the easiest way I’ve found to get a straight edge from one corner to the other (without measuring or removing the table cloth). Repeat on all four sides of the table. I only folded my fabric once, leaving a raw edge, but you can fold it twice for a finished edge.
8. Sew the hem and trim any excess fabric 1/4″ from the seam. You may choose to use a straight stitch or a more secure zigzag stitch.

Here’s a tip: use a “full” print, so if your material pulls a bit and isn’t quite right, you won’t notice the difference. The lines and images printed on the line will show any mistakes immediately and will haunt you forever! I found some nice PUL fabric by the yard on Amazon.com and also some square vinyl tablecloths. This is just a sampling of the fun photos I found!
