Ingredients: Two pieces of fabric (upholstery weight fabric is best), one 22 inch chain, 3.5 cubic yards of bean bag filling

1. Cut two pieces of fabric 45″ x 32″. The fabrics can be identical or you can choose coordinating patterns for a two-tone look.
2. Fold right sides together. On the long rough edges use a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying. Then sew to the same edges. Because of the amount of abuse these stitches will take, I highly recommend using a short stitch length for durability.
5. Open the fabric up again and you should have a nice symmetrical curve on one side. Zigzag the raw edge and again use your straight stitch to close it.

6. Open the remaining sewn edge. Keeping the right sides together, fold in half in reverse as shown below.
7. Sew your 22″ zipper down the center of this opening. I used an invisible zipper so it will be less visible when finished.
9. Turn the bean bag chair right side out and fill it with beans! This child-sized seat takes a bag (3.5 cubic feet or 100 liters) of beanbag filling to create the perfect filling. There is no easy way to get those crazy little static cartridges in without dropping something. My best tip is to have two people to hold the zipper open and a third person to put it up – oh, and have a vacuum ready!

The Fabric Guide You Need For Creating A Bean Bag Chair
1. Measure and cut the circle. Starting with your pieces of fabric, cut two circles with a circumference of 170 inches. I folded my fabric over itself to make 2 cuts at once.
The easiest way to measure is by the radius of the circle, which is 27. Cut a string about 40 inches long and tie one end to a pin or straight pin. This will be your main point.
Tie the other end in place with chalk or a fabric pencil so that the string is exactly 27 inches long from tied end to tied end. Find the approximate center of the area on the fabric you will be making your circle and hold the rolled edge there. Stretch the string until it is taut, then use the chalk to draw a perfect circle. Cut out both circles.

2. Measure and cut the rectangles. From each type of fabric, measure and cut two rectangles, 87″ long x 32″ wide.
3. Sew one edge of the rectangles together. With right sides together, pin and sew the two rectangles together along the short (32″) edge. You will now have one long rectangle, 32″ wide x 170+” long. Do this for each type of fabric.

6. Fill with foam. It is in your best interest to carefully follow my next tip! Place the foam pack before opening and expose to air. It will stretch like crazy and the foam is super static-electric so it sticks to everything. Once the insert is stuffed, wrap it up, then sew it up! (Or zip it up if you’ve zipped it in!)
