Recently, my husband and I realized our dream of installing a pool, which we surrounded with a degree. And since we ended up with a long circle, I saw the opportunity to use it to build a few chairs for the living room.
How To Build A Recliner Chair
The designs I came up with are backrests that fold the legs flat for a modern look, and a long stool with a footstool so we can put our legs up while watching the kids. The composite material makes the chairs heavy, but with the non-resistant handles and the polyurethane glue that holds the parts together, I’m happy to say that the chairs are sturdy and almost maintenance-free. To make them perfect for lounging, you only need long cushions to cover the seat and back.

Note: The steps in this guide do not include exact measurements, so it will be important to find the pillows, measure them, and create a frame that will work with them. For this design, Jenn purchased chaise lounge cushions and built a frame to fit them.
Composite decking material holds up well outside, but has different properties than wood. Here’s what you need to know when working with it:

TIP: Many kits are available for drilling and plugging holes in composite deck boards, but I found it easier to drill the pilot holes with a ¼-inch bit before installing the plugs.
Following the cut list above, cut the deck to size with a table saw, then cut with a miter saw. Apply polyurethane glue to the unfinished assembled faces of a short piece and a long piece. Align their lower edges and tie until the glue cures. Draw the four holes to move in the long leg and in the short one; create a counterbore with a 1/4-inch bit, then secure it with 15/8-inch screws. Cover each hole with a plug. Do the same for the remaining legs.
Place the shoulders of the aprons against the bottom of the edges, 91/8 inches from the front of the edge. Glue, fix and secure with 15/8-inch screws. Rail for the support of the seat on both sides of each leg, the sides grooved down. With the same pieces, glue, attach and make the rails to the sides and ends of the boards, 1 inch below the surface.

To put the backrest flat on the legs of the back, cut the shoulders for the width of the shoulder support. Then glue and make each leg 11 cm from the end of the boards.
Place the backrest support 1 inch from the installed seat support rail. Drill a 3/8-inch hole through the sections 1 inch from the end of the back rail.
Place the sides and ends of the chair on their smooth edges, perpendicular to each other. Drill two pilot holes in each board and in the sides. Attach the pieces with glue and 3-inch screws; hide screws and plugs. Glue and screw the support-rail pieces into each end frame.

Hammer a carriage bolt through the outside of each frame piece and the rear support arm. Turn the bolt heads into the assembly. Add the washers, then tighten the lock nut on each bolt with a wrench.
Place the first slat against the front of the frame, then glue and extend and the other six to the fixed rail. Attach the ends of the slats with glue and two screws, leaving a space of 1 inch between them. Create the U-shaped frame for the back. Place it on the rear legs, then glue and glue the remaining slats to the frame.
Glue together two 2-inch-wide boards to make an L-shaped shelf to raise the backrest; connect the board between the back legs. Make a U-shaped arm with glue, 3-inch screws, and three lengths of stock; bolt to the frame. Now the elbow double blocks in the frame to hit the back when you sleep.
