As Christmas approaches this year, I'm trying to distance myself from the Walmartification of America. My natural inclination is to look for bulk products at Walmart. This year I will try to bet on quality. I don't want to give people another piece of garbage to fill their house with.

In my family, we draw names to choose gifts for our siblings. I am making a wooden chair and table for your son. I have a piece of oak about an inch thick, that will be the material.

There are 4 pieces to support the seat, all 2″ wide and 3/4″ thick. Together with the vertical pieces, these form an 11″x11″ box.
The last two parts are the back of the chair and the seat. The back was made of planks 5″ wide, 9 1/4″ long and 3/4″ thick. The seat was 12″ wide, 13″ long and 7/8″ thick. Below are all the parts except the seat. The rear part does not cut the upper curve.
Everything was pretty simple except for the seats. The front leg and seat supports are just straight smooth parts. Make sure the ends are square. To calculate the seat angle, I measured some of the chairs I had. The angle was 12.5 degrees. I came up with this pattern.

To make the rounded top part, I drew a circle 1 1/2 inches in diameter. If I were to do it again, I would make the top 11 inches longer. As you can see in the picture, it is only 9 centimeters. The bottom is 10 7/8″. The 10″ matches the length of the front legs, and the other 7/8″ gives room to fit over the seat. I patterned D ‘1/4″ in plywood. Thanks to this, I had both legs equal. After the designs were drawn on the oak, they were cut and flattened. I was thinking of making another chair, so I cut off three legs, you'll probably only need two.
Draw a circle on the top of the chair to cut out the back. In the photos of all the parts above, you can see that this circular part is the wider part. The circle was 11 inches in diameter. A cheap way to do this is to take a piece of string and tie it to a pencil near the tip of the graphite. Measure 11 inches of wire perpendicular to the top of the board and hold the pencil while turning. Cut a little from the drawn line, and smooth it with a file or sandpaper.
Now you need to finish the seat support parts. Make a pocket hole at the end of each piece. I use a Kreg jig and love it. Here is the updated version they sell.

When installing the seat, seasonal expansion due to changing humidity levels must be taken into account. I used the fasteners in Table 8. You need to make a 1/8″ deep slot where they go. You can use a drill or chisel for this, but I used a router. I wanted to make sure the figure 8 had enough room to turn the pieces. I did this on the front and back rails. Glued on both sides. Get it – only $0.89!* I got quality solid wood at a great price that can't even compete with leather tape from el-cheapo! Sell it! We grabbed a couple and went on our merry way. *There may or may not have been a wild dance party in the middle of the tunnel.

It has changed many things. For one, screws, glue, and nails are recommended, but since I know the Kreg Jig, I decided to use it. This means knowing where to make all the pocket holes and how to attach each panel. In short, I was “flying”. And things did not go well. Case in point: this hardware bug (oops):
And now attach the seat to the frame. But first I had to figure out where to remove the spine.

I filled all the pocket holes with painted/stained wood filler and then attached the seat with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue.
I decided to paint the table white (since we already had it on hand), and the chairs red. I found this strawberry color marked down to $1.57 in the Up Paint section.
I used a 2-inch angled brush to apply the paint, but I didn't want the brush strokes to show through, so I only used the roller for the table top. After primer, 2 coats of paint (light sanding between coats) and 3 coats of satin polyurethane, here is the final result.
