Then install the strain relief on the back of the seat. To fill the remaining space, continue from back to front, placing reliefs with a spacer 3-8 inches thick (Image 4).

Before attaching the last four strips, lay them down and check their spacing. You will need to cut a relief to fit between the risers. You may need to increase or decrease the spacing slightly for a consistent look. Add back reliefs, work your way up from the bottom, and adjust the last few skids. Rotate the armrests (A) to the riser (D) to complete the move. Next, place the swing on a flat surface and align and screw in the arm and chain (Figure 5).
If you want the chair to easily move from side to side instead of back and forth, fasten the top of the top chains 22 inches apart. To minimize lateral movement, place top chains at least 28 inches apart. Be sure to leave the top chains a little longer to lower the swing if needed. For comfort, adjust the angle of the stroke; It is as easy to move the quick link connectors or S-hooks to raise or lower the swing arm.

Measure the length of the rocking chair. I space my posts 5 feet apart (measured from the inside of the posts). Make sure there is about 6 inches of clearance on each side of the swing.
