Grants For People With Epilepsy – We currently offer two categories of financing. Below are the details of each, along with other important application details.
This competitive grant seeks to develop new multicenter infrastructures (registries and networks), or expand the scientific scope of existing multicenter infrastructure projects, to advance clinical and health services research.
Grants For People With Epilepsy
We are interested in all areas of pediatric neurology, but are particularly interested in pediatric epilepsy. We prefer research programs that offer training and/or mentoring opportunities for young researchers.
Grants Management (iija)
Applicants who are senior researchers should show mentorship to junior faculty or students in their proposals. Applicants who are Early Investigators (ESIs) must demonstrate that they are receiving appropriate guidance from senior faculty. ESI[1] is defined as within 10 years of completing a degree or graduate clinical training, whichever is later, and has not received independent funding (eg, R01) from NIH or the equivalent of another funding organization as a principal investigator. .
PERF™ offers two opportunities for Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) administered by the Child Neurology Foundation. These are the PERF™ Elterman Research Grants and the PERF™ Shields Research Grants. Researchers selected by the PERF™ Committee will be invited to submit full applications and will be notified in January 2024. Recent grant applications are posted on the GRANTS page.
Winners will be notified at the end of June of the award year. The funding cycle will begin on September 1 of the year of the grant. If you have a seizure, you may be eligible for an epilepsy grant. Charities, businesses and philanthropists have set aside funds for people with epilepsy to help them pay for university. This money is really useful when you are a student.
Most epilepsy fellowships are designed for undergraduates or those about to enter graduate school (although some may be appropriate for other levels of education as well). They are usually designed to help cover the general costs of going to college, including expenses such as computers and software, books, pen and paper, food, travel and accommodation.
Anyone with epilepsy going to university can apply for an epilepsy scholarship. Depending on the organization behind the scholarship, it may be limited by things like your family income or your location (for example, you may have to live or study in a particular state or territory).

For about 30% of people with epilepsy, medication alone may not be enough. If this is the case, there are alternative treatments available.

It is important to understand that epilepsy scholarships can be competitive. There can be dozens or even hundreds of applicants for each scholarship, so there is no guarantee that you will receive financial support.
Epilepsy Scholarships: Where To Begin
Finding and applying for scholarships can be time-consuming. It is worth giving plenty of time to complete your application. To increase your chances, you may want to start applying during your junior year of high school; this will give you at least 12 months to apply and hopefully receive a scholarship.
Epilepsy scholarships can be a very useful way to support you through university. They recognize that people with epilepsy often face real educational challenges and provide funding to make it easier for them to attend university.

Nyu Langone Receives $8 Million National Institutes Of Health Grant To Develop State Of Art Brain Implant To Study Epilepsy
The CURE Epilepsy Catalyst Award (2 years/$250,000) supports the flexible development of the data needed to advance ideas toward greater commercialization funding opportunities and is not intended to replace these opportunities.

The award is open to independent researchers at assistant professor (or equivalent) level or higher at universities and non-academic research institutions (including small biotech companies) seeking to develop new interventions for epilepsy. International applicants are welcome to apply. Postdoctoral fellows are not eligible to apply for this award. All materials must be submitted in English.
Getting Embrace Through Charity Organizations
Claims up to $250,000 can be made and paid within 2 years. Funding requests may include salary support for the PI, technical staff and/or collaborators, supplies, animal costs, etc., and travel to epilepsy-related conferences if the PI is presenting their research funded by CURE Epilepsy. Limited purchases of equipment necessary to achieve the objectives will be considered. Overhead expenses are not allowed.
The CURE Epilepsy Award (2 years / $250,000) reflects CURE Epilepsy’s continued focus on scientific advances that have the potential to truly change the lives of people with epilepsy, with disease prevention and remission as key goals. The main priority areas of the award include: 1) Basic mechanisms of epilepsy; 2) Acquired epilepsy; 3) Pediatric epilepsy; 4) SUDEP; 5) Refractory epilepsy; 6) Sleep and epilepsy.

Scholarships — The Epilepsy Foundation Of Virginia
This award is available to established and early career researchers*. Investigators serving on the CURE Epilepsy Scientific Advisory Board may not apply for or sponsor grants during their term. International applicants are welcome. All materials must be submitted in English.
*In general, early career researchers are university professors at the assistant professor level (or equivalent positions at non-university research institutions). Established researchers are university professors at the associate professor level or higher. Postdocs are not eligible to apply for this award.

Emory Neuroscientists Aim To Develop Anti Inflammatory Drugs For Epilepsy Patients
The Taking Flight Award (1 year/US$100,000) is designed to facilitate the professional development of young epilepsy researchers, allowing them to develop research priorities independently of their mentors.
International applicants are welcome; you do not have to be a US citizen or work in the US to apply for this award. All materials must be submitted in English.
You can claim up to $100,000 per year. Funding requests may include salary support for the PI, technical staff and/or collaborators; supplies, animal costs, publication fees, etc.; travel to epilepsy-related conferences if the PI is presenting their CURE Epilepsy-funded research. Funds cannot be used to purchase equipment. Overhead expenses are not allowed.
Uthealth Houston Researchers Awarded $15m In Nih Brain Grants To Study Speech, Epilepsy, And Dyslexia
The Rare Epilepsy Collaboration Award (1 year/$100,000) will support the development of research tools, techniques, model systems, and data collection platforms needed to stimulate and accelerate rare epilepsy research. Each award will be co-funded by CURE Epilepsy and one or more rare epilepsy advocacy groups (partners) identified in the RFP. Applications should focus on the specific epilepsy or rare epilepsy represented by each group and address CURE Epilepsy’s mission to cure epilepsy.
The award is available to established and emerging researchers. Early career researchers should have a dedicated mentor to advise the applicant. A clearly articulated statement of guidance from a guardian must be submitted with the application. See Request for Proposals for more information.
