To kick off the season, I sat down with Bhargav Maganti and Igor Karlicic, co-founders of Monarc, the behind the world's first robotic quarter.

It was nice talking to you both. Now, I'm interested. Are you all athletes? Do you both play soccer?

Bhargav and I used to play different sports in high school. Balgarf played tennis. I swim and play water polo. So of course there's an appreciation for the players and what they've been through, but it would be unfair to say we've had the same experience.

We are now on our way. In fact, we have had the opportunity to work with many athletes at all levels. Now, yes. Yes. We are definitely fans.

Yes. So Igor and I met in 2008. We were champions at Northwestern and became friends early on. We all studied mechanical engineering, and we all spent a lot of time working in our engineering shops.

The reason we are best friends is because we share the same interest, oil and creativity. And we had a lot of teachers, a lot of classes, and it really pushed us to try to think outside the box and see ourselves as entrepreneurs in a logical way.

How did two young engineers running in the same circle, who were not football people at the time, decide to start a football-related ?

So at some point in our learning and development journey, we made a pact that we decided that one day we should start a — we should build something really cool.

So this idea really got Igor and I really wanted to follow Monarch full time and quit our jobs.

Now, for those of us who have never seen the Seeker and are trying to imagine what a robotic quarterback would look like, can you explain what it looks like and what it's made of?

Um, yes. Five ‘six' robots with a six-ball magazine, if you can guess. It weighs around 300+ pounds and is made of mostly steel and aluminum.

Well, one of the main points we try to convey to our customers and users is that we offer a representation of the same games. Keep your distance from the Seeker. But with this, you can think of different ways our robot can interact with the runner.

Well, that's one thing they have to do well, and it's hard to do well when you haven't caught any tickets during practice. Those early days were certainly very exciting for us. Basically, we learn everything from scratch. So Igor and I are both engineers, but we've never – nobody on the team has ever designed a robotic quarterback. So it starts from the bottom up.
