I had a delicious meal with cocktails *and* port and while this put me in a good mood, I think it also had something to do with the fact that this puzzle wasn't doing much for me. I could process the idea properly, but it just wouldn't start. I see what is happening. I see that there is constant development, new colors are added to each stage, etc. It's an…interesting find, I think. There are defined subjects. My response is “yes, amazing.” But that's about it. It wasn't fun, and I had no sense of expression. TWISTER MAT is not marked for me at all – I know it has colored circles, but I have no idea what those colors are. I should never have played Twister. You could tell me they were any number of colors and I would believe you. What colors are the Olympic rings? Maybe I could guess, but I don't know. The rings are symbolic as there are five of them, which seems creative, but I don't think the *colours* are particularly symbolic. So when I got the answers I thought “oh, really?” No, “aha!” I'm not even sure I can tell the color of the Mastercard rings. I will honestly tell you that one of them is orange. But red and yellow, you say? Ok I know the traffic light is green, yellow and red. *That* is a sign. The others are quite true, so the puzzle is quite valid. But he had nothing to do with it. More like an unusual kind of experiment. I love the syrupy symmetrical shape of the unusual glass, the unusual dimensions 16×14. But the only answer that made me sit up and go “ooh” was DEATH GRIP (33D: very hard grip). The subject is very interesting, but it was not fun or interesting to solve. amazing interesting These are the only words I have.

I had -STER MAT and still had no idea. “Is it…MATTE TOAST?” But I also had -IC RINGS and I had no idea, which is not easy to explain. I blame the port. But really it was the “black” ring that got me. I couldn't figure out how “black” fit. So I slowed down. I also shortened many of the two-part answers where the previous parts seemed like they could be a lot. Like “AW, NUTS” and “WHY, YES” and DART OFF. I also had problems with WAR DRAMA, and… hmm. I know “war movies”, that sounds a little. But most of them are plays, right? There really aren't that many war comedies or war horror movies. I think “drama” is a form of “war”, so MILITARY DRAMA feels a little more, a little more. Google “war movie” is much better. But WAR DRAMA also googles pretty well. I do not know. I know HAHAS still makes sense in the plural, but overall this grid is very clean. The only thing I didn't know directly was PIRELLI, which I actually know about, or at least heard about, but I wrote BORELLI, which I think is a type of pasta. It's almost a paste. AW, NUTS, is “Barilla” pasta. Is there a *Famous Artist* BOORELLI? Ah, man, it's Andrea BOCELLI! Which rhymes with “vermicelli”, which brings us back to pasta.

My family talks about religion and death and glass, so I have to go and see how it all fits together. Sorry, I didn't notice that in Zing. I hope you did.
