A few things – Christmas card season is upon us and I thought I’d give you a heads up this year as I was late last year. We’d love to hear from you and see your photos here on the close-knit family. We would love to receive your Christmas cards. I’m going to start a little Christmas card campaign by asking if you could send pictures of your family or leave a note about what the podcast means to you. We want to hear from you. I know you don’t have Christmas cards – I’m just noticing you. I know I said the “C” word, I said Christmas, I know it’s September, but I was late last year, I thought I was early this year. Not grateful.

I also want to let you know that we are entering a new era of women’s conferences and I can’t wait for you to attend this event, which will be held in the United States next year. . The council is called the faith that speaks. In case you haven’t noticed, the culture is in trouble. Look around. The questions will come. Where are the answers?

The need for healing here and around the world is great, but in one of the most difficult spiritual days in human history, God’s people seem to have forgotten who they are. I will spend this year reminding you who God is, and then encourage the faith you speak of. We have been afraid to speak about the hope of Jesus, instead we have allowed ourselves and our message to be silenced. The world has lost its way because the church has lost its voice. Jesus knew this would happen. After Paul advises us to put on the whole armor of God, he says, “So stand firm.” Remember, we’ve talked about this before. Patience is patience in action. And so he said, “…watch with all patience.” So don’t stop, you pay attention to all your patience and action. Go for it. It is patience and action. Please, it is “for all the saints” that you ask the Lord for help.

In my speech in 2019, I will tell you again: Be alert for this purpose, open your eyes, show patience when you ask the Lord to help the people of God. Then he said: pray for me. This is the Apostle Paul and if you need prayer for healing, I need it. If Paul needs prayer: Father, I need you. Mom – I need you. Gloves – you need them. He said, “Pray for me, that I may speak boldly to preach the mystery of the Gospel, which for me is an ambassador in chains.”

The psalmist said, “Let the redeemed of the Lord … speak thus.” . Here we are. I want to encourage you, come and join me where you will see our women’s conference, speak and learn that you too can boldly preach the mystery of the Gospel, which God wants us to open our mouths to proclaim the truth of the Word. God’s world is crumbling around us and we need to hear from those of us who rely on Jesus Christ. You will see where I have to do this. If you want to bring our Women’s Conference to your neck of the woods, get in touch, let us know and we’d love to hear from you. Here’s a speaker note and you can let us know if you’d like to bring our women’s conference to your neck of the woods. This is truly a day of repair and revitalization of God’s people. We will open God’s Word and dig together, eat together, ask questions, and worship together. It is wonderful. It changes life.

Speaking about the incredible life-changing power of Jesus, Faith is Speaks is in Vancouver, Washington on Saturday, October 12th, with tickets on sale now. I encourage you to do this. The weekend after that I was in Lincoln, Nebraska. My conversations are getting less and less. I hope you come out and join us. We can’t wait to see you.

You know, I’d love to hear your questions. If you want to send a question, you can find me online at /MailBoxMonday. This is just a form to help you filter your queries better. We want to hear from you.

Okay, let’s move on to the question now. This is from Sarah and she: Heidi, I love listening to your podcast. You have been giving me wisdom for years. Sarah, thank you. I don’t think it can be extended, but thanks. I am raising five children in one of 12 and have a question about homework. At what point do they become useful problems and never become useless? I have a friend who wants my kids to enjoy their childhood and not have to sit at home doing something I shouldn’t be doing.

A few things off the top of my head. First of all, it really annoys me when people talk to moms like people. It’s kind of an embarrassing idea when you’re training your kids to help you around the house. Somehow your child will not enjoy being a child. This is ridiculous. I’m guilty now. So don’t listen to it. This is ridiculous. What you have to remember, and I think probably more than any topic I’ve talked to you about about parenting, is that it’s divisive because we live in a permissive culture today.

The goal here is not to raise an older child. The goal is to raise healthy, well-rounded, efficient adults. You are not raising a child. As my wife, Heidi, always tells me, we don’t raise children, we raise adults. We try to continue their childhood years with as little sadness as possible. We want them to enjoy their childhood years and we want them to play – part of what we do is get them away from all electronic devices, not always sitting in front of the TV. I think this is what’s happened culturally—we’re giving our kids gadgets. Here’s your iPad and your phone and here’s some video games and here’s this and here’s that. We don’t give them jobs. I think what we should do is the opposite. I say get them off these devices as much as possible, and then encourage them to go outside, encourage them to read books, encourage them to do homework.

I’m just going to talk about life issues for a moment. We’ll start with the small ones and work our way up to the big ones. Our kids have to help us around the house, and your kids don’t have to like it. Let’s be honest, parents, it can be harder to teach your kids to help you instead of just helping you. In fact, I can guarantee it will be faster. You can get the job done faster and easier. If you send your child off with just the iPad and clean the kitchen, it’s less stressful, but you help your child’s development when you start doing the housework. They can do it from two years. I’ve blogged about this for years
