I’m so excited to have you join the podcast event. This is Dr. Chris Berg from Durham, North Carolina. He recently received his Ph.D. in dialectics. It may focus on aspects of the New Age movement and how they present themselves today. So I listened to Chris on Sean McDowell’s podcast and was impressed with the way he answered questions. I think the papers were very new then. I wanted to bring that in here too, so welcome to the podcast, Chris.

Andy Miller III: By calling I mean I was often called a doctor when I was a pastor. People say Dr. I know that students and others need to practice saying this word.

Andy Miller III: In that sense, I appreciate it because it’s appropriate.

Andy Miller III: So I wanted to talk about some things related to that, and now that the book is out, you can look at the dissertation. It was really helpful, but it’s called New Age..

Andy Miller III: Before I explain what the New Age movement looks like, can you help me understand the New Age movement?

Christopher Berg: Of course, the important thing to understand now is that, like most movements, it goes through stages.

Christopher Berg: The look today is very different from the 70s. This is the reason.

Christopher Berg: We’re seeing people of different faiths, spiritual leaders and gurus come together as a response to distrust of the system.

Christopher Berg: They believe that what they call the “New Age Movement” is not a single organization, but actually a collection of different organizations, a collection of different people.

Andy Miller III: That’s great. If you go to Wesley Bible Seminary, this will help you sort out some of the things you’ll get. With the different themes of pantheism and pan-american theology, can you help us distinguish it?

Christopher Berg: Of course, pantheism is more than that. The idea that all beings are one nonism and that all beings are gods.

Christopher Berg: Not because your physical self is somehow born or possessed, but your spiritual self is God.

Andy Miller III: Perfect Perfect Okay, excuse me for interrupting to talk about one of the key features of each of these worlds: the New Age worldview.

Christopher Berg: The third part, according to them, is that in order to be saved, one must dive into oneself, engage in ritualistic spiritual practices, and gain knowledge and understand the existence of God. That means it won’t happen.

Christopher Berg: And finally, if you go through with it and the whole world is with you, we’re going to enter a new utopian age, and the utopian vision is going to be a very powerful new age.

Christopher Berg: All this philosophy and theology is still there. You don’t see many crystals, you don’t see many tarot readings, etc.

Christopher Berg: In a more basic sense, the foundation of this new era is now being laid.

Christopher Berg: Unfortunately, yes. We may ask some questions later, but Christians are mostly experienced.

Christopher Berg: It’s new. Their philosophies of thought were given the veneer of radical New Age, Christianity, which they incorporated into their lives and began to subvert their belief systems.
