(wow) Words Of Wonders Level 1660 Answers – Given how long he lived, we know very little about Thomas Durham’s wife, Dorothy Durham, but we only have hints and mysteries about her genealogy.

Dorothy was born in 1663 – we know best based on her statement in James Gilbert’s will in 1704, or within a year. She died in early 1725 and before 1753 when her second husband Jeremiah Greenham died.

Dorothy and Thomas Durham had many relationships during their lives, which tells us the names of Dorothy’s two older sisters. Other records tell us that Dorothy was closely related to William Smoot, but the fact that Dorothy’s son married William Smoot’s daughter almost certainly does not rule out the possibility that William Smoot was Dorothy’s father. However, William could be his brother, uncle or other relative.

And poor James Gilbert. An epileptic man cannot remember what is in his mind for a year or two after his registration. Mary Gilbert, James’ widow, paid the fee to one William Smoot when she sold the land to Dorothy and Thomas Durham after James Gilbert’s death.

The script for a family living in Virginia’s Northern Neck reads like a Dallas thriller TV series, and there’s plenty of interest — but you can’t watch the next season to find out what’s going to happen. Like don’t know who shot JR Ewing!

If you would like to read more about the families that married in the Northern Neck, and the history that shaped their lives and times in the century or so after the settlement of Jamestown, I recommend the following article:

There are so many players in our Northern Neck family drama that we’re trying to uncover who Dorothy’s parents are and aren’t, so let’s talk about each one briefly and get into the details. What you will find is that, we don’t have individual stories, there are tapes of life woven together in Tidewater Virginia during Rappahannock County and Richmond County after 1692.

William Smoot played an important role in Dorothy Durham’s life, but not as much as her father. However, it is easy to see how the confusion began because in August 1700, William Smoot Sr. gave land to Dorothy and her children “for my love to Dorothy Durham, wife of Thomas Durham.” This sounds like a real father, but it’s not, because Dorothy’s son, Thomas Durham Jr. married Mary Smoot, daughter of William Smoot Sr., as William’s will shows in 1716. Dorothy’s son apparently did not marry his cousin, who was his aunt. However, William Smoot must have been related, as he also mentions Dorothy’s nephew through his sister in the same land business. We’ll take a look at the Smoot family to see what gems we can find.

James and Mary Gilbert combined many beautiful threads in this tape. The family spent much time together, arguing as a family, after James Gilbert’s death, Mary sold her land to Thomas Durham, and William Smoot relinquished his interest in the land. Unfortunately, we do not know William Smoot’s interest in Mary’s land or his relationship with Mary.

Fortunately, the mind of James Gilbert was discussed, and we found half a dozen statements discussing the circumstances surrounding his mind. Unfortunately, none of them tell us exactly who they are, but there is something to show that you have to gather something.

However, for some reason, James Gilbert left his land to John Mills Jr. Even before James Gilbert’s death, there were strong feelings between the family – so much so that James Gilbert and his wife seemed to be cutting themselves apart. It must have been worse than chicken pox on James Gilbert’s chest. Wait until you hear this story!

Dorothy’s sister Alice married John Chinn. Alice died in 1701 in Lancaster Co, VA and her will is recorded in probate 8 page 105/106. The children named in their wills were Ann Fox, wife of Captain William Fox, Catherine Heal and Rawleigh Chin. We will see if we can find anything about John Chinn and Alice that might indicate who Alice’s parents are.

Dorothy’s sister Thomasine married Abraham Marshall. We see Abraham woven into the fabric of Northern Neck families, especially the Gilberts and Mills. Thomasin is a beautiful name. I wonder if this is a type of Thomas woman from a childless family. I am very surprised that Dorothy’s children did not include Thomas or Alice, although I am sure that Dorothy had deceased children.

My favorite saying when doing both Appalachian and Acadian genealogy is that it’s not the family tree, it’s the family tree. I think this is also true in Virginia, especially in areas that are isolated for some reason – like the Northern Neck Peninsula, nowadays. Of course, new people settled there, but the families who owned land on the banks of the river were destined to marry for one or two generations. There is no one else nearby and available, so you marry your neighbor who may also be your relative.

I kid you not – this is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever done. It is clear that there are side records and many players are connected in some way, but “how” is not clear. Perhaps you have some thoughts after reading the comments – I’d love to hear from you.

If this is not your family system, the explanation may not appeal to you, but if you have a difficult problem to solve, you may be interested in how I solved it and what I could collect.

Now, not to scare you, besides the relationships shown in the genealogical chart used as the basis of the career grid, the chart below represents the players in the game and describes the events and – combine them. Click to enlarge this or any graphic.

Let me explain how it works. The pedigree chart above the chart shows how different people are connected by known/proven relationships. The three figures in dark rose are Dorothy Durham and her sister shown, related to unknown parents above them. Their parents can also be involved in the area. We know that two of Dorothy’s sisters married local men, so Dorothy’s parents also lived there. You can’t marry someone unless you’re in a nearby court. In fact, Dorothy’s parents may be some of the people at the bottom of the chart – not affected by those at the top through any known relationship.

The green box includes data, detailed information and documentation presented in the next section, but it is detailed enough to be included in the pink or blue box in the chart above. did not make the box chart larger.

For example, the green box below James Gilbert outlines his actions and interactions with others on the grid. The red arrow points from people interacting with others. James Gilbert left all his land to John Mills Jr., so the red arrow points from James Gilbert to John Mills Jr.

The diagram above is intended to use drawn lines to create a visual representation of a complex relationship. The red arrow doesn’t include what I think are normal duties like land, rights, etc. that are transferred between parents and children. Others do not appear immediately based on pedigree charts.

To anyone who has read this entire book, I welcome your thoughts on how different people relate to Dorothy Durham. On the other hand, if you think there is something that prevents a relationship, I like that too. Needless to say, if anyone has any more information, I’m all ears and appreciate anything I’ve missed! Other areas may have additional information that I am not aware of.

Since I live in or near the Northern Neck of Virginia, I use the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana to access records issued for Rappahannock and Richmond counties, but also select others. Also, I use a site called “Early Colonial Settlements in Southern Maryland and the Northern Neck Districts of Virginia”. i
