Sun Yan is the name of the book’s main character and is sometimes ambiguous, hence the play on words in the title. However, the title could mean something else and how you interpret it is really up to you. 🙂 (a little)

How To Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach To Cleaning And Organizing By K.c. Davis

This book juggles academic tropes so well that within 50 pages I was yelling “please smile!!!” For the two main characters, and it just gets better and better from there. Between the beautiful writing and wonderful class commentary and Henry Lee, if I wasn’t screaming into my pillow, I was in tears as I felt the Chinese culture and diaspora experience weave through me. All time favourite. Bonus – my favorite out-of-context quote: “I had no idea you’d get so much praise. A beautiful, light book that delivers exactly what it promises. It’s the kind of fun story that’s easy to get into. Between a girl who suddenly disappears, the pranks she pulls, and her hatred for her academic rival, it’s a good mix of fun times. An interesting debut that definitely has AL on my author watch list. Thank you, Color Factory Press, ARC! ↠ 3.5 stars

Wow! It was more fun, action packed and exciting than I expected! When I saw the cover and read the line about a promising, talented scholarship student Chinese American girl who uses her talent to pay for her tuition, I expected something more dramatic, sad, and I read sad. I didn’t mean that the book is not considered provocative enough with strong messages criticizing classism, racism, inequality, poverty, but the way the messages were delivered is excellent. I didn’t mean that this book is not considered provocative enough by criticizing strong messages like classism, racism, inequality, poverty, but the way the messages were conveyed is excellent! And I have to admit, I really sympathize with Alice from the very first chapter, when she is having lunch at a restaurant with her family and feels something bad (the family rarely eats: for birthdays, deaths, and dramatic news). A high-achieving student/learning machine at Arrington College, Alice is only able to secure a partial scholarship and discovers that her family cannot afford the rest of her education. He has two options: go back to the states where he goes to school in Maine, or worse, go to a public school in Beijing. Extremely disappointed, Alice decides to wait until the end of the semester. The clock is ticking! Just when she thinks things can’t get any worse, after an awards ceremony and a nasty prank with her nemesis, Henry, something goes horribly wrong. He starts shivering and after a few seconds hyperventilating as if he has a fever, then bam: he can’t see his reflection in the mirror! Doesn’t look terrible! He needs the advice of someone like him: that means he needs the help of his enemy! Maybe they can work on a special app called Beijing Ghost that can help other students who are nowhere to be seen. Alice believes that her secret power will help her earn enough money to pay for her education and help with her family’s financial problems. And her partner in crime, Henry, isn’t as annoying as she imagined. But knowledge is power, and too much unchecked power can ruin people’s lives. Alice is going to experience it first hand! Imaginary enemies get romance, powerful messages, I enjoyed reading it more than I expected. Special thanks to Nate Galley and Incyard Press for sharing this wonderful digital review copy with me in exchange for my honest review. …more

A Bushel And A Peck

❣️I don’t need BeReal, I need Henry Lee for BeMyBoyfriend❣️ “Whatever happens, he’s smart enough to get through this and I’ll be there to support him.” Since this is the second book, I’ll dive into the plot before writing my wedding vows to Henry. I honestly want people to read this book and not just see me professing my love for it. We are blessed with fans (haters aside >>> ) and never written academic rivals with Rory Gilmour’s academic credentials. We are blessed with fans (haters aside >>> ) and never written academic rivals with Rory Gilmour’s academic credentials. The Asian drama is set in a high school in Beijing with a Gossip Girl atmosphere. And it’s all topped off with magical realism (which amazes me)!! Alice is the perfect female YA movie. Very sympathetically, I always said “me too sister”. That was really character development, nice to find him where he is. Of course, even as the perfect child of the “Study Machine”, he made some questionable decisions that almost landed him in jail. Alice is an anti-hero and you are your child, Taylor Swift <3. Henry loved her the whole time and died thinking she hated him 😭. He was always there to help her but let her shine. Their teamwork was truly amazing, especially their love. It felt so healthy. My child was happy to spend time with Alice. It was more action packed than expected and we live for scandal😮💨. The characters, setting, plot and writing were a dream. Best book I have ever read!! Ann Liang (who knew I was reading her book 😭😭💕💕) is the author of the new Instant Buy. It was his first game and it changed my life. i am serious "I didn't even know you had such an appreciation." "I can't believe I ever wanted to take that guy off the stage." "Henry… did you just admit that I'm smarter than you?" – I bet it
