Year In Review 2019 · Inaturalist

Numbers are written (for example, “1979” becomes “Nineteen Seventy Nine.” “Back 2 Good” becomes “Back to Good.”)

Abbreviations are omitted (ie: a long “FM” will be in the middle of the “F,” instead of outside.)

Cover song? We ignore the artist’s spelling and put the original first, then the cover.

Now, that’s fun. We just wrapped up our annual show of thousands of songs from our music library, all in alphabetical order.

This year, we chose exactly 2,017 songs to cry about in 2017. Our first song? “A” stands for Nude Woman. The last? “Zooropa” by U2. Thanks for listening and giving such great feedback. All this would not be possible without the best listeners in the local radio world!

This year. So songs that start with “A” will play at the first letter, while all songs with “The” will play in the middle of the “T”.

The alphabet tour around our library is over. We played 2,016 songs to sing in 2016. 92-3 VIPs first received this list in a special email on January 15.

“Thank you” to our sponsors from A to Z: Dreyer & Reinbold,  Indianapolis Home Show, Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza, Kaplan University, Chatham Home. Another year, another year to look back! 2019 was another record-breaking year, as you can see from the site’s overall growth stats, with continued growth in views and users:

Once again we have to thank the City Nature Challenge for much of that growth, which is very confusing this year, bringing in over 920k views from almost 40,000 people to over 32k species! No doubt it will top a million next year. NRW editors, give yourself a round of applause (there are hundreds at the city level, but @kestrel, @rebeccafay and @lhiggins paved the way and led international engagement). And we continue to see strong growth from the countries of the Network, particularly Mexico and Canada, as well as members that joined this year such as Argentina, Ecuador and Australia. However, it’s always been interesting for me to develop in places where we don’t have direct participants, and I think Russia will take the prize in that category this year, where we’ve had a significant increase tell about the number of participants and visibility. We suspect that this is at least partly due to the recruitment efforts of the Flora of Russia project and its editors at the Botanical Department of Moscow University (especially @apseregin), but I feel we need to thank @katya for translating the unusual part of the site. , apps and Search in Russian.

That’s the difference of a good translation! A panel of translators was added to this year’s Annual Review, mainly because I spent a lot of time this fall making the site easier to translate and responding to questions and comments from translators. fake. A few of them! Special thanks to @wouterkoch for translating the entire site into Bokmål Norwegian himself perfectly (and answering my questions about the language people speak in Norway). What you don’t see in that table is how fast some people translate! Usually when we post a new job, it will be translated into Russian (@katya), Italian (@danieleleglie), Turkish (@sakatur & menver), Danish (NCAA & Lekkim), etc., usually within 24 hours. Almost all of these people are volunteers, so we’re grateful to all of you for making iNat better for people around the world.

Should We Recognise That “laws Of Nature” Extend To Laws Of Our Human Nature? (which, Would Then Frame Civil Law.)

Also added to this year’s Review are the runs! Some of you may remember that I wrote a blog post about HOW. Surprisingly, @jmaughn is still running great, but @sambiology is right behind him:

I was going to add this chart to the personal stats pages, but honestly it’s not very interesting as most people don’t last more than a few days (@atlnature you did this really neat if you want to know your run count). Jim and Sam have been adding comments every day for over 1,700 days, which is over four and a half years. May I also add that they are all very knowledgeable naturalists and a pleasure to work with in this field?

Also, can we listen to Seek? We hired @abhasm and @albullington last year to completely redesign and rebuild Seek from the ground up, and @alexshepard, @budowski, @pleary and @gvanhorn did a lot of work to bring the machine vision model to life. our calculator down to fit the phone. and work offline. Seek currently has 514,000 installs on iOS and 379,000 on Android, and almost every day we hear interesting stories about it, often from people who have never heard of iNat or won’t use it, so so We really think we’re helping special people get out. . I want to express my pride to Amanda and Abhas who are working in app development for the first time since leaving another job, but they have successfully completed this application without any problem. realize. Great job.

More updates from the team: @carrieseltzer has extended its accounting and marketing walls to bring you the iNat Store so we can all finally get the iNat t-shirts we love so much. worthy and the Monthly Advocate program, a small but growing segment. . from our debt repayment income. @tiwane
