I don't think I've shared much about my rack progress since January, so here's a quick update for anyone interested.

Long story short, I started making music again at the end of 2019 after about a 15 year absence. I had some old hardware synths, some fancy and burned out from computer recording, so I sold everything and when I missed it for a long time (except my old Moog Rogue, damn I miss it). I found some interviews with Genesis P. Orridge and Richard H. Kirk in late 2019 and it really inspired me to make electronic music again, especially as an art project that explores repetition: repetition, noise, improvement and failure. I got into modular because I've always liked synths and have money to spend throughout 2020. I've tried different modules and sounds that seem in eurorack-land, bought, sold, learned my likes and dislikes. I don't like it, I rearranged it, I added it, I removed it, I bought it. , sold and reconfigured…and finally settled into a system I'm happy to use. I have enough table space (and money) to add another 104hp and that should be enough for a long time (famous last words, I know).

The sounds I like to work with the most are from 1973-1983: very simple analog knockdowns and recording techniques from the Phaedra/Rubycon era Tangerine Dream era, Tin Drum era Japan, Cabaret Voltaire, Depeche Mode. , Klaus Schulze, Michael Hoenig, Ashra, Fripp & Eno, First Human Alliance, post-punk and goth… you get the idea.

I'm not really drawn to grainy, “west coast” or digital FM. I could actually make the kind of music I like with relatively simple materials.

So the rack shown is what I already have with some accessories that I will pick up soon. I'm very happy with the design, so I'm not complaining. I have thoughts about filling the empty 48cv at the end, but I'm in no rush, and I'd appreciate your feedback if there are any modules you think would suit the way I am. I already have polyphonic sounds. covered with Prophet Rev2, B VC340 string machine/vocoder and Roland JV1010. I have the sample covered by the MPC so no need to add it to the rack. I'm looking for a SSF Vortices “character mixer”, a WORNG Soundstage stereo mixer with field filters and a Xaoc Devices Sarajewo synchronizable analog delay. The new Kraken ADM looks pretty fierce. But I'm completely open to suggestions.

Lord knows I do NOT need any of these things, but it's always good to hear other people's opinions. Thanks in advance to those who read this far or have suggestions. Have a nice afternoon.

There are so many great things in your setup that I can't even begin to make any real recommendations. I don't see anything like Disting EX or maybe Decoration and Crime having different “things” to play with because they have so many jobs in them.

A few questions for you if you don't mind. How do you keep everything in sync? I see you have Pams, Eloquencer, Arpitect, etc… Do you use Pams to keep everything locked? Do you close things separately but at the same time?…so they don't come from the same source?

@jb61264 Haha. Honestly, you probably make a lot more new music with your Rackbrute 6U than I do with this monstrosity. lol

Yes, I use Pam to coordinate everything. Most of the time, PNW is my on/off button and acts like a giant clock. I don't always take advantage of everything it can do, but it's probably the most important part of my wardrobe. I multiply various clock signals in the sequencer to keep everything in sync and use Moffenzeef Mito, Zularic Repeater and Branches to multiply the odd clocks, divisions, etc, starting envelopes and batteries.

I don't like diving into the menu, that's why you don't see O&C or Disting EX. I have more Disting Mk4 than what comes with it, but I've invested heavily in modules that specialize in my favorite Disting algorithms, which are in limited supply. I mostly use it as a sidechain compressor or tape delay now. O&C offers a few things I'd like to have, so it might be something to consider.

Warps are my latest purchase. I have yet to prepare a post that I like. I have Parasites and had a lot of fun trying all the different options. The binaural doppler pan, cross folder, ring modes and frequency shift were great. I've been using it a lot on drums and need to spend more time with it. I didn't try to linger and it should be fine. I'm surprised Warps doesn't get more love. It was an instant saver for me, but I guess I have weird tastes.

Am I right in thinking that you can take the zularic beat and mix it to get a different beat on bus A and bus B depending on how you hit the switches?

Yes, that's exactly what I use on Short Bus. I have a lot of gate sources that I plug into that module and change the tempo or add fills manually. It can lead to some very interesting results. And it's an action module!

I would recommend the XAOC Sarajevo to see. When you plug it into your PAMs and press to change the delay time… man – lots of fun, fun sounds! And there's a portable no-immersion unit, which I love!

If you want to add polyphony to your rack (and maybe sell some of the “outboard gear”), I'd recommend the Subharmonicon, the ultimate inspiration and harmonica machine. Although it has 60 hp and a very high price… Instruo Harmonaig and Saich also make a very good pair. I find it easier to put those poly pieces on the rack, but I think you're fine with external poly, so don't worry 😉

Thanks for the good suggestions @Jonau. I've wanted Subharmonicon since it was released. I wonder what modules I can add to the ones I already have to have the same experience. I can find subharmonic ratios in math and I already have some sequences. Hmmmm… I'll dig deeper into creating a temporary Subharmonic. Great offer.

Also, Sarajevo looks amazing. I have a huge DLD lag of 4ms, but something about Sarajevo really appeals to me. Thanks for sharing your experience.

You may need to get one of these – I'm using a quad switch at the moment – I take baby 1 and baby 2 pace and switch between them. I don't mind switching between the two because it doesn't do anything either.

Doepfer do one – Steevio, MylarMelodies and we use them to mix stimuli… in Steevio's words “I've been doing it for years… and it hasn't blown!”

I seriously doubt it, especially at this point in my modding journey where I'm still trying to figure out how to use the VCA effectively…lol…to change the settings on my Hydrasynth, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. a few weeks ago recently using O_C and Disting EX together.

Tour Divide Diaries — Rambleur

Glad to hear you can use Pam this way… I'm thinking of a Rackbrute 3U version to add… Pam's will be the first module I add.

Now the Beatstep Pro is my on/off button for syncing the Hydrasynth and I use some stacker cables from the Hydrasynth to the Rackbrute 6U.

I'm considering the Disting MK4 to replace the Ladik Slew limiter in my setup, as I feel it has less limiting functionality if I need or want to use it…however, to know if it's anything, I need a dedicated module for the setup. little … for me only Rackbrute 6U, swiss army knife modules seem to work
