I think the general reason that users worry that the upgrade will change the function or look for the worse (according to their opinion) or that bugs / glitches will break it and it is not worth the risk.

Click to expand… iPad Air 3 works with iPad 15. Why? Because I don’t know how much performance impact if I upgrade. And I don’t know why I have to upgrade. Because of the weather app? Not worth the risk.
Also, I’m sure many iPads are currently stuck on iOS 12 and iOS 15. They last longer than phones.

As for iOS 16 causing battery drain, go back to 2022 and the same can be said for iOS 15. Go back to 2021 and iOS 14 and up. I can also predict the future. iOS 17 will cause battery leakage in 2024 and iOS 16 will be gold.
I think this kind of bias is really more psychological than anything else. That means the battery gets worse every year, and I don’t believe that’s the case. Battery life is now better than the original iPhone. If we believe that every new iOS version is bad, we are now at 1 second of screen time in a flash. An alternative explanation is that iOS 16 is bad now, but when iOS 17 comes out, iOS 16 will be good again, making it iOS 17. I don’t think that’s real either.
In reality, battery life doesn’t change much from year to year. Battery life depends on the apps you use and your usage habits. What I suspect has happened is that people are using old apps that have not been updated over time or have broken the proper modern API, and they begin to crash a lot or have a negative impact on battery life.
I updated iOS on day 1 on almost every phone I got and NEVER noticed a significant drop in battery life. All that is being blamed on the current version of the OS is cognitive bias. It’s the first day of school in the Chandler Unified School District, and it’s been a good one.
