Orphaned in an Irish workhouse, then widowed at only 19, she traveled to America, where she wooed and married Thor Norgaard, a deaf man from the Appalachian region. That the Lord saw her through the tortuous journey and that Shawn is now carrying Thor’s child are blessings beyond measure. However, while Thor holds onto his heart, his younger brother and rival haunts his memories. Haakon – whose selfish choices broke her trust in him. Running away from the farm in an attempt to adopt Evan as his own, Haakon sails the ice trade of the North Atlantic, where his soul is tormented by the regret that distance cannot heal. Even the beautiful Norwegian woman he came to can’t ease the agony. When the spirits carry him home after four years of absence, Haakon finds the family on the brink of tragedy. A decades-long conflict with a neighboring ranch led them to a fierce confrontation at Blackbird Mountain after the Civil War. Haakon’s cunning and power hold the power to seal many fates, including that of Thor, who is already at risk from a serious illness brought upon him as the first dagger in the war. Now Haakon faces the most difficult choice of his life. One that is a battlefield where pride must be broken enough to be restored, and where the prodigal son can finally feel the healing peace of surrender and the gift of unlimited forgiveness. And when it comes to the woman he left behind in Norway, he may discover that while his heart belongs to the daughter of the north, she is waiting for him on shores far from the land he fought for.

ECPA Christie Award winner and ACFW Carroll Award winner Joanne Bishop writes deeply layered fiction that tugs at the reader’s heartstrings. Joanne’s 2016 novel THE LADY AND THE LIONHEART received an outstanding 5-star selection! From Romantic Times book reviews among other reviewers’ favorites. Joan has a long-standing passion for romance and a budding passion for theology. He is more and more amazed at how miraculously the two go hand in hand. She lives in the mountains of Southern California with her three children and is represented by Sandra Bischoff of the Transatlantic Literary Agency.

Daughters Of Northern Shores By Joanne Bischof

Joan Bishop does it again! There are many authors I love and many I love…but Joan Bishop is consistently at the top of the love, the list, the all-time favorite level. And I absolutely adored this continuation of Thor, Owen and Haakon’s story. In a way, this book reminded me of Joan’s previous series – the Cadence of Grace series, because the protagonist is obviously flawed. All the best characters have flaws in my opinion, but man, I so admire a writer who can write a character with much more obvious flaws and still create someone likeable and likeable. This is Echo to the core. His journey to redemption touched my heart in a deep and profound way… like the whole story. Of course I loved every moment we spent with Thor again. 💗💗💗He’s up there with Charlie the Lionheart for me (if you don’t know who Charlie the Lionheart is, drop everything and read The Lady and the Lionheart now!!). The script is beautifully written and I always appreciate the pacing of Joan Bishop’s books…the plot keeps moving and yet there is plenty of time to sink into each page. He lets his characters and scenes breathe and I love that. So basically this review is just one giant rant… but really, did I expect anything else? 🙂 I received a free copy of this book by Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

– If God had given him another grace. If the result was terrible, he prayed that God would receive him in peace. Oh no, Joanne Bishop moves me a lot with her books. He writes so-called heartfelt books. The stories are so full and rich that my heart is completely involved. We first fell in love with Evan and Thor in Bones of Blackbird Mountain and four years have passed and here we find them married and incredibly happy and blessed awaiting the birth of their first child. After that Thor falls ill with a serious illness, and when this illness weighs so heavily on him, it comes close to crushing his spirit, such is the depth of this illness. In the midst of all this, Haakon returns home to the mountain after realizing he can’t be away anymore, and the burden of forgiving his family for one act causes him growing pains every year. Haakon finds his family in dire straits and faces a decades-long conflict with neighbors who are evil and threaten to destroy them all. Hakon has an insidious power and decides this must end once and for all, even if the cost to him is terrible. But who will come out victorious? And who will die? Will this prodigal son find the restoration his heart longs for? And Hokon draws himself back to the North Shore for another reason as well. If only he could get through this fight. Bishop had to carefully and prayerfully prepare these characters, bring them to life on the pages in such a way that they would spread to the reader’s heart and linger long after the book was finished. I was so excited to read this book it was amazing! This is a powerful book of forgiveness, healing and restoration. Bishop shines! It is highly recommended. *Thanks to the publisher for previewing this book. No positive review was required and the opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I never doubted this would be a five star read, but now that I’m done, I know five stars don’t do it justice, so here’s five hearts ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I was interested in my journey. It will pass and how to earn forgiveness and redemption and how many tears I would shed. I was also very interested in the name of this book and wondered what role it played. For those who have read the first book, we know that forgiveness and redemption are key factors in this season of the Norgaard family. How many of them had to be given surprised me, but maybe not worth it. to me
