In the Geekbench 5 test, the Surface Pro X outperformed the new M1 MacBook Air, finishing behind the HP Pavilion laptop with an Intel Core i5 processor.
Another experiment was done with HandBrake, an open source video encoding software. The new MacBook Air with the M1 chip converted a 12-minute 4K video to 1080p H.265 in about 23 minutes, while the Surface Pro X ARM took 2 hours to do the same.

The SQ1 worked in fractions of a second, and it took about two hours to convert a 12-minute Tears of Steel video to 1080p H.265 format. Apple’s MacBook M1 simply destroyed the Surface Pro X.

Interestingly, the developers were able to emulate Windows 10 on the M1 Mac, and the Mac scored better than the ARM-based Surface Pro X on Windows 10 in the Geekbench test.

I and 23 others are about to receive our teaching license for the 2017-2018 school year. Taught high school and middle school students in the Bay Area of California. Our program was trying. We all had our student teaching positions for the first half of the day, and our own studies for the second half of the day, not to mention work, kids, family, partners, and other personal life issues. I really wanted to do something special for this beautiful group to help everyone at the end of the program, but of course, I’m running out of time. The MLL community really came together and came together to send words of inspiration, fear, joy and encouragement from across the country and beyond (I’m looking at you Australian and Canadian letter writers!). I especially enjoyed hearing from current students and other faculty. Every day for several weeks, I brought several letters and distributed them to the mailboxes of my classmates. It was amazing to see them take their letters and share them out loud with each other. I’ve had a few people contact me personally and thank me more and say they really need the download and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. You all sent so many letters that I accidentally dropped them in the mailboxes of future elementary school teachers, which caused even more joy.
Thank you for coming, my friends. I promise you that smart, motivated and determined new teachers will enter the new school year ready to love, support and speak for their young people. Your support and encouragement means the world.
