Many reasons stemming from the happy memories surrounding this tradition are currently in the gaming industry. This year I went a little too far to respect that tradition…
On December 26th I went down to the basement in the game cabinet to buy a new game and I had a bit of a crazy idea. What if I played every board game in the closet? Most of my family laughed when I first presented the idea, but that only fueled the fire. For the next week, my family and I played on overdrive and late into the night. However, as of 21:45 yesterday, our mission is complete after completing our last Risk save game. The result is 73 games (not including Twisters and puzzles)! A big thank you to Holly, my family, my siblings (especially Levi, Spencer and Preston), my nieces and a few friends who helped me figure this all out.

It’s an interesting idea, but the questions and clips are very simple and take some time to set up and read the rules (unnecessarily long and complex). I have also talked to my family about this game.
Most quiz or demonstration/guessing games suffer from mindless six-sided scrolling, answering a question/doing something, and then continuing in circles. I think when these old games came out, the creators didn’t realize there could be a better way to do things. My main problem with this is that a team can guess everything right and score all 1s, and then lose to a team that still does half but rolls a bunch of 6s. Why are so many people making these 6s? This original game was meant to be shipped. Teams making circles with six-sided dice? This is crazy!
It’s mostly about the luck of the dice, with a few simple decisions about when to roll or not to roll.

I’ve never been a big lover of puns. And all the Words with Friends apps make playing Scrabble even crazier because now there are people playing 2-letter words you’ve never heard of and swearing they’re real to win.
Scrabble, but with stacked bricks. I think it’s a little more fun than Scrabble. Less headache because it is easier to score.
Another type of game that I’m not particularly interested in are games with around 100 different cards, each with different rules. I know most kids who grow up with Magic the Gathering enjoy these games, but they often disappoint me. There’s so much to keep track of that there’s a constant sinking feeling that you can’t make the smartest games. Here is one of those games!

There isn’t much strategy since there isn’t much to do with auction bidding, but it’s fun to feel like a wealthy person buying a beautiful piece of art.

Result: The girls team wins (you will notice that the girls win most of the quiz games. I have a very smart mom, wife and sisters).

It’s a creative game where you try to explain how some things can match others. It can be a little loose, but fun.
Risk is one of the best games ever made. BUT IT SHOULD ONLY BE PLAYED ON COMPUTER AND PHONE. Otherwise very slow.
Fun number/puzzle. My problem is that most of the time it is not possible to win until all the pieces are drawn, so early movers have little or no advantage.
Too many rules for my taste, but some fun teamwork and strategy moments.

I’ve always liked this compared to most 2 player games, but it definitely stresses me out and I don’t think there’s much strategy to try.
This game is crazy. Wrap a tie, then attach the pins to a balloon until it pops. STRESS!
A classic game that I enjoyed playing with my grandson Lincoln. He cornered all his boats except one. Finding the last one was crazy!
A fun game for kids where you smash the “ice” blocks and try not to knock over the man. Play Jenga at the same time for extra excitement.

My memory wasn’t very good so I wasn’t thrilled, but in the end I enjoyed it more than I expected.
The game creates solid, interesting landscapes and strategic choices when placing tiles. It’s not my favorite game, but I respect it.
A game for kids where you move your pawn through a hidden maze. My grandchildren seem to enjoy the really clever use of magnets and hidden boards.
Age Of Conquest: A Kings And Generals Podcast
Fast acting game. This game is superior to other games of its kind because it comes with an interesting machine that “eats” your cards if you don’t win in time. He played a lot growing up, so the nostalgia factor drove him.
This game is very creative, interesting and fun. One of my favorites. But it always took a long time to set up and perfect the script and we played one of the worst case scenarios. Any other scenario could have made the top 15.
The game is fast paced to put the right cards in the right decks. My sister Janae is the infamous boss in this game.
Classic, simple, smart. Camille got lucky with the “do people have eyebrows” question and beat me in 3 rounds.
World Of Warcraft Shadowlands Pre Expansion Patch Notes
One of the most fun trivia games, work with your groups to guess a list of 10 words from the category.
Result: The girls won, but it should be remembered that the 2 questions are about American states and they have to sing the state’s song to get everyone involved.
It’s a roll of the dice, but a nice game with thoughtful categories and questions. It’s always more fun than I expected.
Survivor’s actual box play is pretty bad. Lots of dice and nonsense. BUT my family is pretty stressed, so we give each tribe 3 minutes to go around the house and be allies and whisper fake words to each other before we vote to disqualify someone. Finally, the tribes unite until they get a final backstab (I’m the buyer). Good. Time.
Kentucky’s First Buc Ee’s Opens
It’s a great game, but replayability seems to be lacking. Each game is very similar to the last. Still, it’s a fun game that I like to play at least once a year.
I like the pacing of the gameplay with the app, but the role of the expansion definitely works much better with the original game. Also, we only play with 4 players and it works much better with more people. Sometimes we play the game with 2 roles, which is quite interesting. Solid game.
Result: We played a few rounds because it was so fast. The werewolves were captured once and another time we managed to convince everyone to move all the werewolf cards to the center so we all won.
A quiz game with no dice at the end, answer one question type! The fun game values your trivia knowledge as well as your betting and guessing skills.

The game is fun, but somewhat flawed, as the bandits never get much of a chance after their initial attack on the sheriff. It also moves a little too slowly for my liking.
