Humble beginnings… Before building this bench, I used my grandmother’s old map table. During work, one leg often weakens. Is it safe to say that I’m ready to read at your grandmother’s card table?
* Check your measurements. Due to minor inaccuracies in cutting and chipping, the edges of your cut may differ from what I have here. Measure twice and cut once.
Step 1) Sew the frame from top to bottom. If you are using a Kreg fixture, make sure the wood thickness is set to 1 1/2 inches. Make two pocket holes at the ends of all cross brackets and attach them to the side brackets with the recommended 2 1/2″ screws. Apply wood glue to all joints.

Step 2) Drill three pocket holes in the 2 x 4 legs. Cut a pocket hole at each end and a socket about two inches from the center. The middle pocket space has been removed because the middle support (step 5) will be attached to the middle of the legs.
Connect 2 x 4 to 2 x 6 with 2 1/2 inch screws to complete the legs.
Place each foot in the outer corner of the lower center and in the upper corner of the center. Drill pilot holes and use 2 1/2″ screws. To add legs to the frame, it’s easy to lay the workbench on its side and use a piece of wood to make it tall.

Step 3) Mark the screws for easy distribution before installing the 2×6.
Drill pilot holes and use 2 1/2″ screws to attach four 2 x 6s to the bottom of each leg.
Drill pilot holes and use 1/4″ lock washers and 1/4″ bolts to secure the screws.

Step 4) Insert the MDF board below and secure it with 18G 1 1/2 inch nails all around.
You can sleep on the bottom bunk or continue assembling the middle section.

For maximum functionality, the half shelf is perfect for storing small appliances, while larger items can be stored on the bottom shelf.
Step 5) For the middle frame, drill two pocket holes at the ends of the 23″ 2x4s and the ends of the medium 25 1/4″ 2x4s. Connect the 2 1/2″ holes with wood glue.
Once the frame is complete, add 2 x 4 11″ vertical posts with 2 1/2″ screws.

Attach the shelf brackets to the legs 12 1/2″ from the top using wood glue and 18G 1 1/2″ nails.
To install the middle frame, place it on the shelf bracket and screw the vertical bracket between the top frame cross brackets. Drill pilot holes in the vertical posts and attach them to the top frame center post with 2 1/2″ screws.
For the center shelves, measure and cut the MDF. I used two separate pieces of MDF and cut out a sheet of paper for the vertical support of my Rockwell Bladerunner. Secure the MDF board with 1 1/2″ 18G nails.

Step 6) Place the MDF board on the frame and secure with 18G 1 1/2″ nails.
Finishing helps keep the integrity of the MDF, especially in the corners, and enhances the look by making this beast sexy.
Step 8) Touch up all areas with wood filler and lightly sand. For added protection, I applied four coats of Spar urethane. Stored in a parking lot, it will be exposed to temperature extremes living in Colorado.

This workbench design is a modification of that design that has been updated to be taller, using the same materials, increasing the height to a standard counter size and leaving a hole in the edge for easy tightening.

Please read all plans and specifications before starting this project. It is also worth reading the introductory section. Take all necessary precautions to build properly and efficiently. Work on a clean surface free of stains and debris. Always use a standing board. Look for a square after each step. Always support the hole before securing it with screws. Use the tip of your nail for a strong hold. Wipe off excess adhesive from bare wood for structural purposes, as dry adhesive does not stain. Stay safe, have fun and ask for help if you need it. How To Build A Table: Learn How To Make Furniture The Right Way
Make four legs by joining them with glue and covering 2-3/4″ of the long legs in the footrest. Make sure the 2×4 will go into the hole.
Add the leg spacer length, 2-3/4″ screws and glue. Make sure the legs are square by measuring diagonally from each side as shown. And the diagonal length needs to be adjusted, then check the square again.
Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Add another coat of wood sealant if necessary. When the wood cover is fully heated, sand the product in the direction of the grain of the wood with 120 grit sandpaper. Sanding operation to remove any remaining sand. Also remove any remaining dust from the work surface. Wipe the item with a damp cloth.

It is always recommended that a test coat be applied to a hidden area or sheet of paper to ensure color and adhesion. Use a primer or wood powder if necessary. Think fast. What tools are most commonly used in your company? What tools do you use
