Spray paint on legs. I used Rustoleum Metallic in the shade Flat Soft Iron. The legs are removable so if you want them for me in a different color you can remove them and paint them. To achieve this effect, I used 2 different colors of gold paint.
I started with three 1″ x 12″ x 8″ boards and cut each leg to make a 7 foot table. Cut, sand and join the boards together with the Kreg Jig. There are many different ways to build and attach this bench , I’ll just share what I did.
To make the table top thicker, flip the work surface over and tape 1×2’s around the perimeter of the 3 large boards. Lock in place, drill holes with a drill, then add screws.

Place the newly built airplane on the folding table. Stick to wet nails. If you want it to be more durable, you can screw the screws through the folding table into the newly made table top as shown in the picture.
If you plan to paint, clean the entire countertop with a wood conditioner (follow the directions on the tin). Stain or paint the top. This table is a combination of cleaning and dry brushing.

Finally, it occurred to me: why not make a wooden table cover to cover the plastic table! So that’s what we did!
First we placed 6 pieces of 1x6x6 wood next to each other. We didn’t cut anything to the length or width of the lumber as it was the perfect size to cover the existing folding table. We then measured and cut thin Luan plywood and glued it (using wood glue) to the stacked pieces of wood. We also used our nail gun to nail it to the 1x6x6 lumbar for extra support. Just be sure to use nails that are short enough that they don’t go past the top of the cap.

Honestly, it’s my favorite design so far and you won’t even notice it’s a plastic folding table at first glance. On the plus side, it now fits the size of my dining room, so it gives the illusion of a large dining room. I love everything about it.
