We used a Ridgid table to cut the edges and make each plank 5 inches. This is not a necessary step, but it creates a smooth countertop without bumps. If you don’t tear them, make a base about 4 inches long.
Ikea Hack: Farmhouse Table
Once all of our cutting was done, we used our Kreg Jig K5 to drill 1 1/2 inch pocket holes in the board. (See our printable plans for pocket locations). You can see that our Kreg Jig is set up to drill 1 1/2 inch pocket holes. You can find the Kreg Jig we use HERE on Amazon, and you can watch our How to Use a Kreg Jig video HERE.
Running pins will attach to the legs and slide along the edges of the legs. Make sure your pocket holes are facing outwards so you won’t see them when you finish the table.
Attach a running bar around the table legs up. Your pocket holes will be facing up and the running bars will be sliding along the outside of the table legs.
Ways To Bring Rustic Warmth To The Modern Dining Room
Now attach the brackets between the table runners using wood glue and 2 1/2 inch pocket hole screws. (See program support system).
We wanted the base of the table to look like metal, so we sprayed two coats of Rust-Oleum Universal Metallic spray paint over the entire base. You can find spray paint HERE on Amazon
While the spray paint is drying, we assemble the countertop. Attach all the boards using 2 1/2 inch hole screws and wood glue. Then measure and cut the breadboards so that they fit the top of the boards.
Bristol Dining Table
Attach the stand to the table top using 2 1/2 inch Spax screws. We prefer star screws and prefer to use Spax screws because no pre-drilling is required! You can find the Spax T-Star screw HERE on Amazon.
Flip the right side of the table over and it’s ready to go! We used a sheet of Dark Walnut paint over the table. You can find dirt HERE on Amazon.
