Using the plate, determine the exact dimensions you need for your plywood support. Mine was a little less than 4 x 8 while the original dimensions were about 10 x 10.

Using my all-time favorite tool for cutting large sheets of plywood, I cut additional pieces of plywood.

Since this would be too heavy I decided to hang it with French cleats. French shelves are perfect for hanging heavy or bulky items stacked on the wall. I made one by cutting a piece of wood on a table at a 45 degree angle.

To join the different types of parts from the side, I need to add some depth to the plywood board. I did this by adding more corrugated plywood to the outer edges. I added wood glue and my favorite cordless nail gun. In the next step you will see how this allowed me to add a frame around the sides. A deep French cleat is also needed to hold the Lego wall hanging.

With one of the pieces back in place I added an extra piece of 1 x 2 to the side to make it. I run the plywood along the side where the plywood meets the wall board. This only helps to give a clean look.

I chose Fuse It All Surface Adhesive to assemble the base plate. I’m lucky to have a fast connection when making DIY pantry cabinets.

Using a caulk gun, I put a generous amount of glue on the back of each metal plate. I used a plastic spatula to spread as much as possible on the plate. You want to cover as much space to ensure a proper connection. I wipe off all the excess on the board before putting the plate down.

Start at the corner, move up. Each new plate you put down helps you use Lego pieces to lift it up. That way when your kids want to create their designs, they will move smoothly from plate to plate. I also make sure to press each plate firmly and hold it in place for a few seconds.

Continue until you have filled your plywood block. I recommend leaving your surface for at least 24 hours to ensure a good bond. I haven’t done this yet, but it might help to put something heavy on it.

The French brace made in the first step must be attached directly to the wall for maximum support. One piece sticks to the wall and the other to the back of your plywood. Once the two pieces are in place, simply lift the Lego wall onto the wall. You can check out this helpful video from Famous Woodworking.

After this I added some more details. The drawer is hung on the wall with wall anchors and duct tape below to keep the LEGO from falling.

Square Lego Table

This first step is important. Make sure you have enough wall space. After identifying the space you will use, you must determine the number of base plates to order and use to fill the space. For this project I am building a wall of 4×4 foot Lego baseplates with wood assembled to the overall size.

I decided to paint the frame to make it look better. This is the color scheme for my site and Steam Space branding. You don’t have to paint, but it helps a lot with accents and wall displays. Finally, wood provides a barrier to the wall to prevent damage and loss.

The next step is to measure and make sure your foundation is centered on the wooden frame. I measured, marked and made sure it was good to go. When I had them in a good layout, I took a pencil and highlighted the outside of the Lego baseplates so I knew where to put them all when I started gluing.

Now comes the fun part! I used wood glue to glue it all together. For this I use liquid nails. I’m going to apply glue to the back of the tongue and move it in place. One source at a time.

As I put each plate down, I make sure the plates are lined up correctly. Additionally, be sure to add Lego pieces to all the interstices and edges of the baseplates. You have to make sure that you have a good gap for the chip to form smoothly on the plate.

I put a piece down to make sure it won’t move while the glue dries. This step is very important.

How To Diy A Lego Table

I checked both plates twice. I attached the pieces and quickly removed the pieces to make sure all the plates were glued to the wood. I have some dishes that need more glue. I found it easier to fix this problem before hanging it on the wall.

I used some metal buckets to hold my lego pieces on the floor. This allows for easy cleaning. This allows me to move the Lego pieces around easily when I’m doing something and I don’t want the wall to be a distraction. This is an easy task- if you tend to shy away from DIY stuff, you can give this a try! As long as you can glue you can make this nice little tray.

So I will tell you the easiest way to make a Lego tray and then it is a better choice. The first option is about $5 to use and the second option is about $12 plus the cost of the plate.

I saw these cheap wood chips on a recent trip to Lowe’s. These retail for $4-5 for this size and are the perfect square for a Lego tray! It’s 24″ x 24″ so you don’t need to cut the board. One note here is that you want the plywood to be finished and try to get as close to 1/2″ as you can. I originally bought about 1/4″ and bent it a little after painting and gluing. If you buy a thick piece from the beginning, it will ensure that foundation lasts.

So I just painted white wood and glued the (4) base plate to the board with gorilla glue.
