The light set I purchased was designed to be installed into an exterior wall. Since we are using DC instead of AC, all we have to do is remove the wall adapter and add some connectors.

Connect the solar panel to the solar charge controller. The charge controller should indicate that the panel is connected correctly.

At this point, you can configure the charge controller according to the battery you are using. I use a sealed lead acid battery, so I chose this option. See your controller’s manual for how to program it. (It usually takes 30 seconds.)

Connect the plus and minus wires of the lights to the plus and minus terminals of the fuse block. Insert the correct size fuse into the bulb fuse. (I used a 5 amp fuse for the wiring.)

The charge controller also had to be compatible with 12 V solar systems and able to handle the maximum current output of the solar panel. (A 20W 12V panel produces about 1-1.5 amps under optimal conditions.)
