How To Make Loose Chair Covers – Here are simple instructions for making an unpatterned chair cover. Also, the chair cover is a better fabric.
Believe it or not, I bought this chair for $3 at a thrift store. This is a great deal and I can’t resist a great thrift store product!

The chair is still in great shape but I want to make a cover for it as I don’t like the way it looks in my living room.
Linen Sofa Covers
What a shame to leave my booty on the microfiber cloth when I wake up!
At first I wanted to paint the upholstery. But I’m not a fan of microfiber cloths, nor the texture.
So, even though I’ve never tried anything like this before, I decided to make a fabric cover. It’s not that hard! But I have some raw help.
Custom Made Sofa Slipcovers
Many years ago, my mother gave me a home decor book from the 1940’s. It has lots of interesting tips, tricks and ideas from another era.
I never thought I’d use anything from this book, but it came in handy when I discovered that there was an entire section on how to make the cards. (it has a name
I followed the diagrams and instructions in the book and they worked! It’s basically just throwing the fabric over the chair and pinning it where it needs to be. not difficult, very simple
How To Pin Fit A Slipcover Right Side Out
You need a strong, dense fabric that can withstand the constant wear and tear of sitting on it. The material should be easy to clean and strong enough to hold the stitches together.
Upholstery fabric is specially crafted to resist wear and tear. It is strong enough to hold the stitches together even under the pressure of someone sitting on the comforter. The material is wider than other fabrics so you can cover more surface area.
Don’t use the pretty quilted fabrics that take up most of your fabric stores. They are small in width and light in weight.
Chair Covers — Sitting Pretty
I wouldn’t go for a striped or printed fabric that has to be worn. This can be very difficult for new organizers. You’ll need to line up the pattern with each piece of cardboard you make, so you may need more fabric.
Choose a pattern that has no visible pattern, or doesn’t matter whether every detail matches or not.
Fabric side out. That way, when you sew everything together and turn it over, the right side of the fabric will be exposed.

If you like the look of my fireplace in the photo below, I did it myself without any demolition! Check out my DIY for how to touch up a fireplace surround.
1. Place the fabric on the back of the chair (right side and inside of the chair). Pin the fabric to the chair to hold it in place.
The fabric is then cut to create the piece. You should leave plenty of seam allowance for tailoring. For example, again cut 2 inches wider than the length and height of the chair on all sides. That way, you’ll have a lot of sewing to do.
How To Make Your Own Simple Chair Covers
I attached a long piece of fabric to the chair and started cutting a piece of fabric to cover the back of the chair. This way I can cut in straight lines without a lot of fabric falling to the floor.
2. Now pull the fabric over the front of the chair. Make sure the wrong side of the fabric is facing you and the right side is facing the chair.
Attach the front fabric to the back pattern, which still needs to be attached to the chair back.

5. If necessary, some seams may need to be cut to fit the curved edge of the upholstered chair.
6. Now it’s time to make a cover for the seat of the chair. Lay the fabric over the seat, making sure the edges are tight and smooth. This is what you should do if you have non-removable seat cushions.
Otherwise, you can make a separate cover for the seat cushion. However, if you want a removable upholstered seat cushion to go on top of this one-piece seat cover, you’ll still need to do this step. If the cushion can be removed, place the fabric underneath and measure and cut in the same way.

7. Fold in the corner so the fabric wraps around the curved edge of the chair. You can do this by folding the fabric over itself until you achieve a tight, smooth look.
8. Now you need to add the length of fabric that covers the front of the chair. Measure the distance from the seat cover to the bottom of the chair. My chair has a “skirt” or fabric ruffle from the bottom of the chair to the floor. So I only measured the large seam without the padding, the padding only went to the sarong. Be sure to leave extra fabric for seam allowances.
10. Continue with the details of the card by placing the fabric on the arm and cutting out the details. If there are curves, you may need to add some pleats like you did with the seat cushion.

11. Now it’s time to assemble the seat cover. Connect all the details around the chair. Gather and tuck if necessary to ensure a tight and smooth fit. Make sure all parts are facing the wrong side.
12. Now it’s time to sew everything together. Carefully remove the cover from the chair
13. After all seams are sewn, place the cover back on the chair. The wrong side of the fabric should still be facing out, and all seams should be facing out. Now is your time to make sure everything fits perfectly.

Now is the time to start trimming excess fabric from the seams so they don’t fray or bunch up under the finished cover.
14. Now it’s time to cut the ruffle fabric, or you can also call it a ruffle or punch braid. Cut a piece of fabric the same width as the ruffle, but make it slightly wider and taller to accommodate the stitches. You’ll want to do this on all sides of the skirt fabric.
Sew the sides of the skirt so that the chair is exactly the width you want. Don’t knock it down just yet.

15. Lightly sew the details of the skirt with the cover and iron. Edges can now overlap corners.
16. Now you need to hem the chair skirt. Put the card back on the chair. You can place cards on the right side.
It took me about eight hours to make this card. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to shape the fabric before doing any cutting.
Diy Upholstery Is Easier Than You Think
I’m honestly impressed that it turned out just as good as it did on the first try. Making the crust takes a lot of time, but it’s not difficult.
My only mistake was cutting the fabric too short in one corner. I had to modify it a bit to get it to work.
But as my mom used to say, “Where’s the throw pillow!” and the pillowcase was sewn to match!

You did a great job on your first try. It should be noted that if the chair has a separate cushion, it is best to make the chair and cushion separately. But today’s chair seems unlikely to be like that. If I have a choice (and I usually don’t), I usually choose furniture with individual or individual pillows. One reason is that if one side is damaged, it can be reversed. Another is ease of stacking or duplication. Anyway, thanks for making this information available to single women and others who want to do something for themselves.
