Most people see two options here: suffer from an uncomfortable perch all day or go up for one of the expensive “active” chairs found in the SkyMall catalog. But we’re car people, so we opt for a more creative solution.

Almost everyone who has parked a car has an extra seat or two, and in our case it was the standard Fiesta seat. Time to use it.
The office chair is held in place by four screws near the centre, while the Fiesta seat is bolted to the car at each corner. To attach the Fiesta seat to the bottom of the office chair, we need to make an adapter.
We used pieces of scrap steel, but you can also buy suitable metal at your local home improvement store. We started by cutting, drilling and screwing a piece of angle iron onto each end of the seat. Then we cut two more pieces of steel to create the box. Ideally, this box should match the base of the office chair.

We clamped everything down and placed the seat on the bottom of the chair to make sure everything lined up correctly.
It’s time to get out the torch and weld the steel parts. No welder? Screwing steel together will also work well. After the welds cooled, we drilled four holes and bolted the steel to the base. After a quick coat of paint, we were ready to attach the car seat.
Completely finished. We tried to make sure we got the weight through the bottom. It’s no surprise that our new chair is much more comfortable than the one it replaced.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Farmhouse here on the blog, but we’ve been making a few changes lately and I wanted to show you one of my favorites: a DIY rocking chair for Daphne’s nursery. Turns out the glider is a DIY job… Landing was actually easy. And today I’m going to explain to you how we created the Daphne rocking chair.
Ever since I found out I was pregnant with Daphne, I’ve been looking for the perfect glider or rocking chair. But I didn’t find one I loved
Was the right price. In fact, the one I saw at Restoration Hardware was $2,000 and I couldn’t justify it. I lamented this fact to my friend when he suggested, “why don’t you do it yourself”? He pointed me in the direction of the bottom of the glider and fired up my brain.

These bases are technically designed to replace existing gliders, but are also perfect for a new DIY glider. I picked up this non-skid armchair from IKEA that looks a lot like the $2,000 glider I saw at Restoration Hardware. Then I ordered the base, and one Saturday morning, while Daphne was sleeping in the other room, Garrett and I assembled this glider in less than an hour. Even better, the total cost of this DIY was a fraction of the Restoration Hardware glider. I love the final product!
Armchair – I chose an armchair with a cover, because babies are messy, but a chair with a skirt would also be suitable. Make sure you choose a chair with a hidden base so you don’t see the sliding base when you’re done. budget
3/4″ plywood cut to the dimensions of your chair base (for Farlow we cut ours 32″ x 36″)
Diy Rustic Swivel Chairs
1″ screws to attach the base to the plywood (we used 4 screws, but depending on the base you choose, you may need more)
Take your legs off the chair. If you’re picking up a new chair from IKEA, don’t add legs.
Attach the plywood to the bottom of the chair using 1 3/4-inch (or longer) screws. Make sure the screws go into the wooden frame of the chair. We used about 10 screws.
Diy Glider Chair (it’s Easy, I Swear!) — The Grit And Polish
Attach the bottom of the glider to the plywood using 1 inch screws. Locating the base is the hardest part of this DIY. We originally attached the base to the center of the chair, but eventually moved it further towards the back of the chair. You can move the base until you are happy with how the chair lays.
That’s all! Pretty easy, right?! This DIY has definitely been done before, but I wanted to share it today if you’re looking for cool gliders without the crazy price tag. Speaking of the price tag, let’s find out how much our glider costs.
Not bad for a glider these days. And of course, this number can be reduced by finding a legless chair in the IKEA bargain section. Or find a vintage chair. This would be a really cool DIY with a vintage chair!

For our particular design, we only decided to add a swivel passenger seat. Rotating the driver’s seat didn’t make sense for our plan, and would have required a new parking brake, which we were happy to avoid.
