I cast the table in quarters, then in half, and then in whole, so that I have time to have time to have everything right and aligned before the glued material dried.
I attached a circular saw to a piece of plywood to cut out the circle. Then I drill a hole that fits the dowel at the distance from the blade that I want the radius of the circle to be.
Next, I inserted the dowel and was able to start cutting about 1/16″ at a time. To speed things up, I used a jigsaw to cut off the excess wood so I could cut deeper with the circular saw.

I used the calculator at the beginning of the article to find the measurements for the octagon border and then cut it on a circular saw with a stop.
With all the pieces cut I taped the octagon and trace the outline of the main circle in the octagon with some reference points. I can then cut the radus with a jigsaw and smooth it with a drum sander for my drill.
This time I used a router to cut a circle. I use the same technique as the circular saw.

In the miter saw, I cut 4x4s for the top and bottom of the x-braces and added each piece with half of the joints. The video covers it in detail.
I drilled the screw into a 3/4″ hole and drove it with a 3/4″ dowel and cut it with a miter saw.
Next, I attached the base to the table. I also installed some level feet to make sure everything was nice and level.

A piece of scrap plywood offers the best approach to determine the optimal size and shape of the table, because it allows you to try and refine different options in 3D. Cut the plywood to the maximum size you may want, stand on something where the finished board will go, and then live with it for a while. Should the top be tighter? Shorter? Now is the time to find out. If necessary, cut a piece of plywood mock-up and then live with the new size until you find the right place.
Almost all table designs that include solid wood require a board to be attached to form the table. Here is the empty table in the clamps in my shop. Note that small clamps are used at the ends to align the board and minimize edge-to-edge misalignment.

Even small boards are a problem if the boards you glue have a step deviation due to the twist where they meet. Yes, you can sand, but the more topographic sanding you have to do, the less smooth and regular the finished edge will be. The flatter and better the board is in the clamps, the happier you will be afterwards. This is where back clamps and adhesive sealants can help.
When all the boards are placed in the main tube clamps, ready to join under pressure (but the main clamps are not tight), apply small clamps through each joint at all ends of the board. It makes the space perfectly, at least at the ends. Depending on how your board behaves over its lifetime, you may or may not need shims. These curved pieces of wood are clamped, up and down through the glue, aligning the boards vertically (at least at the ends) and minimizing the steps between them. I used 1″ x 4″ lengths of wood for the handles, with flush edges for the bow, so the ends measure about 2 1/2″ wide.
Clamp the curved corners of the inner bearing to align the board in the middle, then tighten the main clamps to join the board. If the width of the board you use allows, glue the board to the board in a section that is narrow enough to fit in your planer. Open the planer to mechanically clean and smooth the glue joints, then return to the pliers for the final glue. Working with these steps reduces the number of cast items you need to sand and level later.

Here I am sandblasting a large cherry board that I made a few years ago. Proper sanding is the key to a finished table, and there are many ways to do this operation incorrectly.
Even with the most careful gluing, there will be the smallest misalignment between the boards when the board slides out of the clamps. This is where cross sanding helps. With 80 grit sanding material on the belt sander, level the top of the board by working with the grain instead of parallel. This removes the wood faster, making it easier to create flat results. Switch to sanding parallel to the 80-grit belt when all the items are flat, then switch to the 120- and 180-grit belts that are also parallel to the grain.
Although it is tempting to use a random orbital sander to smooth the board in the final stages, I never did. The reason is the quality of the surface treatment. Random orbital sanders often leave a swirl mark that is only visible at the time of completion. A better option is to complete the sanding process by hand with 180 then 220 grit paper only in the direction of the wood grain. The finish of the table is more scrutinized than any wood anywhere else, so you have to eliminate the flaws.

Leave your board longer than necessary until smoothing is complete, then cut to final length. Most places are too wide to cut on a table saw, even with a miter saw, and here I used a circular saw. Fix the guide line so that it is perpendicular to the edge and follow it with a saw. Repeat the process on the other end, then carefully use a manual belt sander to remove the blade marks on the corners. It seems like a difficult process, but you can get good results this way.
The edge of the table is subject to a lot of use, and the round helps to finish the edge longer. Even if you prefer the look of a board with square corners (like me), rounded with a modest 1/8 “radius router will greatly extend the life of Finish. Just add a small amount of rounded.
You can use a beautiful wood surface treatment with a brush in a normal workspace. The key to good results are some tips that most people don’t know: proper smoothing, proper finish selection, and proper polishing as the last step.
