Before we begin, it is important to make a list of the tools you will need to complete the job. These tools are: tape measure, flathead screwdriver, stone saw, level, pencil and 14 gauge pullers.
The parts needed for this little project are specific. I tried to draw them so you can see the difference, but I write each part so there is no confusion. First you have to find the “lone criminals” in the plastic matching retro cut in the box. Every Home Depot salesperson in the electrical department should know these parts by name. Make sure it is cut into the box because it has edges that allow it to be inserted into the wall without nails. Second, you need approx. 6 feet of 14/2 Romex wire. Most outlets in your bedroom and living room are connected to 15 amp circuits. It’s not unusual for something larger to appear in this area, but the room divider where you want to put this connector should be larger than your Romex wire and sized accordingly. Third, you need a 15 amp receiver and a plate screen. Make sure the color and style are compatible with the other materials in the room. Finally, you may need a wire nut, but most likely not.
