Start with a 4′ x 8′ piece of plywood. You want half-inch-thick plain, unlaminated plywood. For legs, use a pair of trestles. Trestles work great and have the added benefit of being useful for many other things. We prefer adjustable height ones for maximum flexibility.

Place the plywood on the trestles, grab a pair of dice, and technically you’re ready to play…but wait…the best part is painting a design on your board! A beer board is more than just a functional tool to serve you plenty of adult beverages – a beer board is a work of art.

How you want to do your artwork is up to you, but if you have that kind of skill we’ve got our pick of spray paint stencils that you can do by hand, or find pictures online and cut them out to enlarge and create your own stencils.

One of the benefits of using trestles is the ability to create different artwork on each side of the board, so you can move your artwork around the table on game day. It also comes in handy when one of the players angrily slams his fist on the table and spills beer all over the playing surface. Flip the table quickly and you’re back to it.

Now attach the legs where they can be folded, place the straight legs where they will be, place the hinge with the long end over the legs and insert the screws.

I drill holes through the sides and legs of the table (while standing) so I can lock the legs. This makes the table more stable and easier to set up.
