Step 1: We took a 37″ x 12″ x ¾” board and made a 24″ long piece for the top of the stool and took the remaining 12″ piece for a stool leg.

Step 2: Next, take the dimensions ¾” x 3″ x 36″ and cut two pieces 12 inches long each and cut a triangle with 15° on the edge with a cutter.

If using the lumber from the dimensions linked above, cut ½ inch to bring the lumber to ¾” x 3″.

These two pieces with mitered ends will be our tie pieces that will prevent our stool from collapsing on itself.

Step 4: Next we have to cut the slots in the leg to hold and carry the stool.

I use my Kreg Accu cutter to make sure the cut lines up perfectly with the lines I draw.

I could have easily done this project with a table saw, but I deliberately avoided it because so many people asked me to do projects that didn’t require a table saw.

So I wanted to show them that you can easily make these projects without a table cutter or planner.

But you don’t want it to be too high, as it greatly reduces the load that can be done.

Step 9: OK. So we are done with the size and shape of the pieces and ready to join them using the pocket hole.

Because the edge is mitered, the pocket hole is angled. We made sure to drill a hole in the side of the bag to fit the stool.

Step 10: Next, drill two holes in the center of the binding pieces to join the binding to the top seat of the stool.

We made two pocket holes on the top edge of the two leg pieces as well as to attach the top piece.

The great thing about pocket holes is that the exact position you make the pocket holes doesn’t matter how evenly spaced they are.

Step 11: After that we sanded all the parts from 120 to 220.

Step 12: We then used 1-¼” pocket screws to attach the attachment pieces to the legs.

To hold the support pieces in place while we used the impact driver, we used a Kreg right angle lathe, which is a very useful tool for making pocket hole joints.

We do this for the two legs and the two connecting pieces and now the bottom frame of our stool is complete. Now we need to attach the upper seat to the stool.

Step 13: So we make two marks to place the end of the stool on the top seat of the stool and use 1-¼” head screws to screw the binding and legs to the top piece.

Step 14: Next, we finish the stool with a cabernet gel stain, to achieve the color of the red vine.

We used a coat and cleaned up after a while. Then we apply another layer to darken the color and wipe off the excess gel again.

So we’re done with the stool at this point. This is a fairly easy project for beginners that can be completed in 3-4 hours with a little preparation.
