This week I’m turning a rope into a boho placemat using a glue gun and fabric dye. I’ve seen many versions of this mat style. and can be expensive Especially if you have a table that seats 6/8! So I thought I’d do it myself.

After a little searching I found 20 yards of rope on ebay for £6 but the rope you put on it would be perfect for this craft. The first thing I did was find scraps of fabric to use as a mat – scraps left over from a flag I made years ago, thrown away after finishing the mat. You won’t be able to see it!

Then I attached the end of the rope to the center of the fabric with a glue gun. and began to wrap the rope in a circle Apply glue to the end of the string to attach the next piece. When you have a circle with a diameter of about 30 cm, cut the string and fold the ends down. The cut end of the rope is a good idea. so that the end of the rope does not protrude too much Otherwise the end of the rope will fray.

They will look ordinary. But as a result, I decided that I wanted to draw a design on them. I chose a geometric pattern in the boho style. Use masking tape to mark where to paint. It takes some time and some mess. But it is worth trying to make the pattern perfectly smooth.

Then I painted the pattern with black fabric dye. When the paint is completely dry, peel off the masking tape and you have a boho style pad!

Accept the fact that more rope is needed than you think! You will need at least 10 meters of rope per placemat to keep it above the edge of the dinner plate. This is what I used to do.

As I mentioned, I don’t need step-by-step instructions. This death is pretty obvious. Take a 10-meter rope and start winding yourself. Apply a small amount of glue to the outer edge of the string with a glue gun and roll it up.

Continue rolling to the end of the 10m length, working on a flat surface to ensure the mat is flat. I also have a lot of glue on my countertop so make sure you put something like a board on it to protect it your surface

When you’re done Turn the mat over to the “wrong” side and slightly expose the ends so the glue can drain off.

This will allow you to clearly see the “right” side of the washer. but still lays flat on the table An optional final step is to glue a flat circle to the base of the placemat. I don’t need stability. But it gives the pad a professional and neat look.
