First, my story: I have been looking for rocking chairs for my front porch for years. Greg bought us two beautiful wooden chairs a few weeks ago. They were a brown color that didn’t match our house, so he painted me white. But the cushions were still the light beige that the seats came with before. I am NOT a beige girl. So we went to the fabric store and chose a bright and fun street canvas. But the fabric sat for a while, and I didn’t work on it at all. Can you hear me?

First, lay the fabric on a flat surface with the pattern facing up and place the patio cushion on top of it. Place the patio pillow in the top corner of the fabric so that the back of the pillow is close to the top edge, and leave enough space on the side of the fabric to go around the side of the patio pillow. If your fabric is too wide or too long, cut it now. Make sure there is enough fabric on both sides of your patio pillow (I left an extra three inches on each side).

Then pull the fabric over the patio cushion to cover it completely. Your fabric will come together at the top. Leave another three inches of fabric on top, then cut off the excess.

Once your fabric is placed on the patio pillow, sew both sides. If your quilt is pinned back like mine, I suggest you skip the last pin and mark it in another way, like a pin on the other side of the fabric where you would pin it (oh don’t just pin it) or a fabric tag. .

Update May 2020: I returned these patio pillows three years ago and they are still holding up! But the fabric is gone because I keep forgetting to take them out for the winter. So it’s time to use this tutorial to get them back! The question is, what is the best outdoor fabric to use this season? Finding the fabric will be more difficult than returning the pillows because our craft shops are still closed. Maybe I’ll have to get creative!

If you want to add or replace deep cushions, the ordering process is easy! There are a few things to keep in mind when measuring new cushions for deep furniture before ordering. Measuring furniture correctly is the most important step when buying pillows. To make sure they fit properly, do not measure the existing cushions. Old pillows are not an accurate representation of the pillows you need because over time, the pillow filling cools and the fabric stretches. When determining the thickness of the required cushion, it is important to reflect on the raised loft or crown, about 2 inches depending on the filling type of the chosen cushion. If your furniture didn’t come with tall seatbacks, make sure your furniture frame can take the extra thickness. This is also important to remember
