Our table tennis table is ready for use. It’s time for the finishing touches, such as painting the fence lines in detail or tightening the hinge screws.
We replaced the net and now we can play a table tennis tournament in our backyard. As you can see in the picture, the table can be placed outside and inside. I hope you like it! Ping Pong Conference Table
We started with 2 full sheets of 3/4 inch 4×8 plywood for the base. One of these whole pages will be under the table, so pocket holes on the edges are enough. The under-counter storage area measures 89 1/2 inches long, 41 1/2 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches deep, and features a center divider that controls the width of the space to help increase structural rigidity. To get these pieces, I used a combination of a circular saw and a table saw to split another sheet of plywood. All table main parts are assembled with pocket hole.
The legs are also cut from the second layer of plywood. Pins are 9 1/2 inches at their widest and taper to 4 inches. We cut eight of these and placed them in pairs at a 90-degree angle. To give the table a more elegant look, open plywood is glued on the outside. Each pair of legs is screwed into a corner of the base from the inside so you can’t see any pins. Since a standard ping pong table is 30 inches high, the legs are 29 1/4 inches long, enough room for a 3/4 inch plywood table top.
Since official ping pong tables are 9 feet long and 5 feet wide, a traditional 4×8 plywood board from a home stand will not work. Each quarter of the countertop could be cut from 4×8 panels, but that would leave a lot of scrap and increase the cost of the countertop to about $200. Josh found a plywood distributor that had 5 ft x 5 ft maple plywood panels for about $30 each. Instead of making the whole table flat, we use cookie cutters to cut out the table pieces and join them together.
Diy Ping Pong Table Projects: Do It Yourself Easily
The table tennis table has white border lines around the edges and in the center of the table. We used walnut as a different edging material than the very special maple plywood. With 1-inch walnut boards, we were able to cut 4-28 1/2 x 52-inch quarters from two 5-by-5-foot panels. The walnut and plywood parts are attached to each other with large clamps, but we switch to wedge clamps so that the half-boards can be attached independently when necessary. Using the CNC machine table as a flat surface, we put the 2 quarters together and closed some hinges at the bottom to create horizontal clamping pressure. Once the two halves of the counter are joined with cookie and wedge clamps, it’s time to join them to the center line between the hidden hinges.
One of the major limitations of this project was that it had to hold my silly toys on the bottom. To access this space, the top half of the table rotates along the central support to open independently. I didn’t want the hinge to get in the way of the game, so I chose to use the same style of hinge that was used in the Hidden Door project a few years ago. These hidden hinges come with a template and I have marked the specific hole locations for the workpieces. I used a combination of a drill, hand drill, and chisel to clean out the hinge cavity. This middle section will also house the LEDs, so I cut a dado in the middle before putting the cover together.
All the tedious cutting paid off and the hinged top sits flat and looks great. The table top is then attached to the base by driving some screws from the middle of the side to the middle bracket of the base. We have a working ping pong table that looks great, without a custom net! But I like to do it, we can’t leave it there.

Another major possibility is that the board can help players score points. We decided to install a separate LED strip under the grill, and when a button is pressed, a bright “dot” will shine through the transparent glass panels. I programmed the Arduino Uno to turn half the LED strip red and the other half blue each time the player pressed a button. I used two large arcade buttons as input and the microcontroller outputs the signal to the connected LED strip. Still, to keep the game from getting in the way, Josh added buttons under the table so players could touch them with their feet. Now everyone knows the score and when to deliver the ball!
For this table, Evan & Katelyn created beautiful leather upholstery with a laser-cut geometric pattern, along with some custom-designed 3D-printed mesh accessories. You should check out their build here, they did a great job. But if you don’t have any good friends who pass by the name of table tennis, you can get a net that sticks to the table very quickly and easily. Once your network is set up, grab some paddles and play!
In short, 4 people spent a week building this well-designed, useless, but amazing powerhouse project. Again, these particular table tennis plans are not very practical, but I urge you to think differently about table tennis tables. Not only is this table a great ping pong table, but it also doubles as a Lego building station, board game center, modeling space, and podcast space. An outdoor ping pong table has been on my to-do list for years. We’ve had an ugly ping pong table in our backyard for a long time and it fits. We couldn’t stay away from the table, so my kids didn’t have a good game. Plus, we have a comfy rocking bed where the ping pong table currently sits, and I miss that rocking bed so much, so…get on the ping pong table.
X Outdoor Ping Pong Table / Cornilleau
The standard size of a table tennis table is 5′ x 9′. After much deliberation, I decided to use plywood to make my table out of wood.
I use solid 4′ x 8′ plywood for the center and put another piece of plywood in 5 1/2 inch strips that I go around the outside edge to get it to the correct finished size. I also add a 1″ X 2″ trim to the outer edge of the raw plywood to seal the edge.
I used my circular saw to cut the plywood down into 51/2″ strips. I used a 1″ x 6″ candle as the fixture. I drilled a 1″ x 6″ into the plywood and ran my circular saw fence along the edge of the wood.
